Remember 8 weeks ago… remember that time there was a clamour on here to pick the second team lads… remember.
Leicestershire have a 16 year old leggy playing! I'm pretty ambivalent about the 100,but an upside is that lots of young lads get to play cricket that means something, which often isn't the case with 2nd team cricket.
Yeah it's definitely meaning more young lads across the country getting a chance in competitive cricket.
50 over cricket should still be a valued competition. The world cup in limited overs. 50 being the best one imo. I'm all for bringing young ones through. but not wholesale. Yorkshire have been decimated due to the 100. Possibly more than any other county.
As an avid cricketer and one who watches a lot of cricket, to suggest Yorkshire haven’t got strength in depth is bonkers. No county has as much, apart from maybe Surrey. There isn’t a county though that can carry such significant overhaul from International call ups and still compete. Im not certain it will continue though. The recent changes to local cricket have had a massive impact on the quality since the break up of the Yorkshire League, and subsequent changes to Bradford, South Yorkshire, Central Yorkshire leagues. The standard isn’t a patch on what it once was.
And that equally decimated Surrey team wiped the floor with us at Scarborough. Stoneman and Amla - two pretty decent batsmen there who might have knocked them all off themselves. Yorkshire have always had a good production line with so many coming through and having us saying "It won't be long before he gets the England call". For some it happens, for others it never comes. The young guns did alright today though didn't they, although when I looked at the Leicester score earlier I feared the worst. Every year we say "maybe this year we will win something". When Jason Gillespie was running the show we did, but have never really looked likely since. Perhaps this year - Championship or T20? Either or both will do nicely
The third biggest chase ever and Duke the second youngest to reach a century behind one of the all time greats. https://www.yorkshireccc.com/news/view/9408/report-leicestershire-foxes-vs-yorkshire-vikings-rl-cup
I agree but that statement is talking in real terms about a top notch overseas. Stoneman has fallen out of favour, was shipped out on loan (to us) and isn’t classed as a big player anymore. If Yorkshire had chosen wisely an overseas this year they’d be competing on all fronts, even with the side they’ve been putting out. Remember the other teams are decimated too. They also have to do with England taking major players for the majority of the summer. Root, Bairstow, Malan, Rashid, Willey.
