Apparently tomatoes are one of the only fruits that are actually more beneficial health wise when cooked than eaten raw. Something to do with chemical changes that occur when they are cooked. Also the green coating round the seed is anti carcinogenic apparently.
Cheap 'value' tinned toms we use to get in the UK are pretty minging and the big brands are very expensive. The Lidl ones over here (dont know if they are the same in the UK) come in two different tins... green slightly cheaper but inferior to the ones in the blue tins which are the ones we get as we usually have to add some water to get the all the juice out of the tins as it is really thick and that rich. they are only about 40cents a tine as well.
This time of year though we usually have a glut in the garden and sun dry with salt most of the ones we grow and pack them in kilner jars in sunflower with a few basil leaves and capers. T hey last us through to teh next year when the tomatoes are ready. The rest we either eat fresh or make passata which we freeze for Ragu sauce, curry bases , stews like Osso Buco etc.

Not a fan of black pudding. And I just can't get my head around potatoes at a breakfast or brunch.

We have started making our own beans which are really tasty. I can't remember all that goes in them, but has red onions cooked down til they are sweet, passata, garlic and smoked paprika. Delicious on toasted sourdough with a poached egg on top and some crispy pancetta.
