Before this tournament I was probably 80/20 Club over country, this tournament has changed my outlook on it, I’d say I’m probably 55/45 now, it’s been an unbelievable tournament and lads have done themselves proud

I still see the national team like a southern club side because of where they play. If Barnsley played England I would want Barnsley to win.

England are like that ex who keeps persuading you to take them back despite the grief it causes you every time you do!

I was absolutely gutted as a 9 year old watching Italia 90 and I've got my hopes up so many times since then. This past couple of tournaments I've refused to believe we could do it but it hurt last night still.

I sat in my seat last night for about 20/30 minutes after the game. Had to be asked to leave by the stewards.

Can't remember a feeling like that since Cardiff in the FA Cup Semi-Final. Promotions and relegations hurt but you always know there's another season and another opportunity (Premier League promotion excluded obviously). But to come that close to winning a major tournament with such a fantastic set of players and manager - that literally might not happen again in my lifetime.

Today is the world's worst non-alcohol related hangover.

I just don’t get the need to say this sort of thing at all. I’m always 100% behind both my Club and Country. It’s not as though they are ever going to play against one another

Agree with this. You can support both, one of or neither. They'll never meet each other. It's an odd phrase.

I support Barnsley because I choose to. I was born in England, just have no affinity at all with the team anymore. I'd have been fleetingly pleased for Stones if they'd won and from what I've heard from Southgate, I think he's a thoroughly decent bloke, but the coverage today of louts, thugs, morons, and racists using the cover of the england national team as an outlet for their abuse and bile... it's another grim day and although a shame England didn't win, I'm actually quite pleased the vile followers, despite being a minority (though it seems too big to be called that) didn't get something to celebrate.

You should have been around in the 1970's when we couldn't qualify for the World Cup at all.

Snap.......it’s worst I’ve ever felt in a football ground, I feel even worse today!!!

As for the arseholes taking to social media to spout there racist bile against the lads who missed a penalty then shame on them, they must lead very sad lives

Struggling today big time mate. What makes the whole social media abuse and racism issue so infuriating, sorry embarrassing, is that after following England for 20 years last night was the most diverse and inclusive group of fans following England I've ever encountered. This is only my experience of where I was sat and the concourse I was having a couple of pints on, but it was one group of supporters following one country and one group of players, with all different ethnicities and backgrounds welcomed inclusively. It was just brilliant to see. Singing and dancing on the concourses, kids and parents loving it, females not feeling afraid or worried, a real togetherness. The complete opposite of Wembley Way which felt like a war zone taken over by people without tickets.

Then as you're leaving Wembley it's videos of destruction, carnage, and the England of old.

I said same after game Wednesday, the different ethnicities around was great, all with England shirts on going as mental as me when we scored, shirts off, swinging them round there heads.........we need to concentrate on the positive last night and that was the applause of the players taking the knee, I’ve wondered if it’s run it’s cause but if they believe by doing it shows some unity then that’s fine, it was a great touch by the fans last night to applaud it and it seemed most of thé ground was taking part too

I'm glad you saw it like that as well because I've been telling people all day who don't believe me. The Wembley and England fans I experienced inside the stadium was a different breed to what was outside and what's doing the rounds on social media.

In the vicinity of where I was sat I had a person of colour to both the left/right of me, a gay couple right in front, and an old Indian guy and his son nearby as well. All hugging, high fiving, living every minute together and kicking every ball. The ringleader for the pre-match singalong on the concourse was a young kid wearing a turban taking his top off every ten minutes!

It's easier to deal with when we're nowhere near. It's the hope that kills you.

England are like the ex who you keep jumping back into bed with because you know the sex will be great, but in the morning all the old arguments will come back and you'll just feel terrible again.

Losing a playoff semi & an international final within a few weeks, is a lot to take.
The racist filth just piles on the misery & disappointment. :(
