Rashford acting the Billy Big balls with the stupid run up was even worse. Some pi$$ poor pens from the last 3 really. Says something when Maguire took the best one. Get your bloody foot through it.
What a terrible bunch of lovely people you are. If you step up to take a penalty and miss you are still a hero in my eyes. No one deserves any criticism for this tournament. Its been great. Just gutted we haven't won it.
You don't bring players on to take penalty's in the last minute and you certainly don't let a 19 yr old take the most important one. Southgate as managed to lose us two penalty shootouts one as a player and now one as a manager.
I wasn't blaming the players for me the blame lies at the managers door he didn't react quickly enough in the second half and made poor decisions with the penalty takers.
Poor decisions by Southgate, shocking to put such a young lad under such pressure, Grealish and Sterling should have been taking them. So near and yet so far.
Its alright criticising him for the penalty takers but whos to say likes of Grealish stepped back and didnt want it? i find it hard to believe he wasnt given one to take, so assume he didnt fancy it.
I agree with both of these comments. My preference is for a full-wellied spotkick, but I'm not criticising the players tonight. They all did us proud.
I agree it's easy sat here and with hindsight. Lot of emotion watching that and lots of us will lash out. I think with time to let the dust settle we see it differently. But I think I will forever lambast Rashford for that pen. The fact is when you try and be clever and take a penalty like that and it doesn't come off you look like a tit. I'm sure he feels worse about than I do.
Or perhaps we should laud Southgate, that any better?! His negative, cautious approach in that second half cost us the game. He's a bottle job much like when he missed the penalty against Germany.
If senior players stepped back to let a 19 yr old take that pressure they should be absolutely ashamed of themselves.
Are you for real? We've just made the euros final and semis of the world cup under him. Totally uncalled for
Have you ever taken a penalty in a final....at any level . What an absolutely ridiculous armchair critic comment Sometimes you have to hold your hand up, Italy were the better side. No criticism of Southgate...average age 24... fantastic tournament.
Two things. 1. I don't think pressure had anything to do with it, it was a good penalty well saved. Could have happened to anyone. In fact didn't the experienced Harry Kane with 45 penalty goals to his name miss one the other day? 2. How do you know how much pressure Saka felt? For all you or anyone else knows he might have absolutely begged Southgate to let him take one. Anyone who's fickle enough to slag off a player or the manager for us finishing second in Europe on penalties needs to give their head a wobble.
Well by that logic we shouldn't pass comment on almost anything. Have you ever been Prime Minister for example? Assume you don't judge any politician? I'm entitled to my knee jerk half cut reaction thank-you very much.
And that's the English mentality all over. Delighted at a lucky WC semi final run and ecstatic despite losing a final! Granted we've played well for most of the Euros and deserved to be in the final but Southgate got a lot wrong in the second half.
