We say this a lot about players we like... How many players/managers that were definitely once Reds have we disowned? Is Chris Morgan still a Red? What about Sam Winnall? Any other contentious ones?
Chris Morgan probably hates us now. He wouldn't of done what he did if was one of us. Winnall never a red. Just here for his job. Edited post. Didn't read that you put as disowned us.... Harry maguire. Dont think he's bothered about us anymore.
He was. Im saying he disowned us more than we did him. We fully turned on him as soon as the hume saga happened
He played well for us but for me was tainted not so much for the injury to Hume ( I'm sure he didn't mean to cause the head injury) but the fact he refused to apologise or admit to being reckless.
Morgan burnt his bridges. I think Wilson tried to bring him back, as assistant manager, but it was made clear to him there'd be a fvcking uproar. He can consider himself to be a Barnsley fan if he wants, but I'm one too, and I'd not have gone again - until he left - had they employed him.
Big Eric, Rimmo, Sir Bobby, Disco, Bazza's biscuits seem to be the only guys you'd actually class as being reds for life. Bobby and Disco are now part of the fixtures and fittings until they decide to retire. Special mention to Sir Bruce of Barnsley who basically will replace Dickie Bird as our favourite son when the fateful day arrives. Played for the club, loves the town and does loads in the community. Other than that most of our legends either left and played for other teams or have represented other clubs including rivals.
Pleased to see Jim O'Brien get a new contract at Notts County. Always liked the lad & he played guitar. https://www.nottscountyfc.co.uk/new...HKdXcCqQraskngW8quJnzp-sxSB5WCe_6vYvCQzpC8spA
Few more than that mate. Macca. Glavin. People like Derek Parker who set up home around Barnsley. May not be their clubs growing up. But I’d put em in the allus a red. Sir Bruce will always be a red.
Nowt against warnock. And he loved his time at Barnsley. Was he ever classed as allus a red.? other two never were,
I'm sensing some irony here. As one of the older ones on the board I remember Warnock playing for us. Was a half decent, but lightweight winger, who could chip in with a goal or two. Spackman was useless. Hill was OK first 6 months till the rug was pulled on players. The ex Rochdale players were some of the worst to wear the shirt in terms of ability & other than his jacket the wheels came off quickly there. His post match interviews were painful at times.
Not so much a Red but more an adopted Yorkie is Gareth Southgate who says he loves the Dales and Yorkshire for the no nonsense hard working people in the county. Also likes Bettys tea room in Harrogate and the Wetherby whaler which does indeed do pretty good fish and chips and has been my point of call on my way to Wetherby races
I loved him - someone who wore his heart on his sleeve while playing for us and it never looked like "Just a job" for him, those players are rare - one other example would be Hammill.
In the zoom interview done last year he said he would love to come back and coach after he's done his badges. Still lives in Tarn afaik. I've got a lot of time for him.
