Fekin commentary team making out as though he’s been this colossus tonight.

The Irish commentary have been quite complimentary about Stones across all three games. Quite rightly. He's done well.

Maguire is a class act, so is Stones they're different defenders but compliment each other. Maguire organises very well and drives from the back. Stones is more of a footballer and spreads the back line.

With Maguire in the team we're at more solid. Add Henderson in midfield and we've got a proper spine.

He hasn’t deserved any more plaudits tonight than Stones, yet gets them

Stones has been immense these last games, long with the rest of the defenders.

I think it's to do with Maguire coming back to fitness and doing a solid job.

It's exactly this, he's come back from an ankle injury which can be buggers to shake off. It's more the commentators saying he doesn't look any different. It's no slight on Stones. Like I previous said they compliment each other and there's nowt better than a centre back pairing made of Yorkshire granite.

I think it's the ManUtd connection that grates and then when Neville goes and says John Stones needs him next to him......well.........o_O

And someone ere was suggesting Neville to replace Val.

Maguire and Stones are England’s two best centre halves, and complement each other very well, Mings isn’t a patch on either of them.

Personally I'd play all 3, in a 343 Val formation.

With tripper on right and Shaw or Chilwell on left of the 4..

I can probably get behind that, having Walker over Trips is absolutely criminal.

I wouldn’t worry about the pundits opinion. They said England’s defence is their weakest point across the pitch. Allegedly it was a worry pre tournament?! We’ve conceded 1 goal in the last 9 games. Going all the way back to November 2020.

Southgate gets stick, but he deserves credit for making us a tough team to beat now. Whoever plays in the back line it will work. Maguire and Stones are our strongest pairing. But you could play Coady and Mings we will be just as strong. He’s nailed the defensive part. If our attackers delivered what we know they can we could go along way in this tournament.

Thought Maguire was okay tonight but he played a few very dodgy wayward passes, a bit like me at 5 a side.

Really wouldnt want Neville as manager but talking about the United connection, would love Roy Keane!! Be very entertaining

On a similar theme, Darren Bent was on Talksport today saying how immense Mings has been and it's Stones that should be dropped for Maguire. Don't get me wrong, I thought Mings was very impressive, but Stones was MOTM against Scotland and led the defence against Croatia superbly.

Don't really rate Darren Bent as a pundit or presenter anyway but this one was just bizarre.

They've all looked ok ..even Ming's. But the test will start next week when they'll be real talent going at em.. a few million steps above Dykes and Che Adams.

Didn’t rate him as a footballer either tbh. Some of the pundits aren’t any good anyway and wouldn’t know what a decent line up would be.

Stones and Maguire looks like the most solid centre back pairing for me.

Agreed. I think if you go to a back three you play Walker in there to cover Stones and Maguire in the same way Sibbick would cover Helik and Madds for us. Unless you're playing a slow front line, but imagine Mbappe running in behind Maguire, Mings and Stones. Would be brutal.
