Think it's a great appointment. I think it's a weird decision from Parker to be moving from Fulham to Bournemouth, can't get my head around that at all. But unlike the Head Coach who WBA are backing to get them back to the promised land, Bournemouth's choice has a Premier League promotion on his CV. Which one is the most odd?
Parker only got the chance to take Fulham up, because he took them down (though they were in a lousy position when he got the job.) They scraped up through the play-offs with a squad which, on paper, was one of the top two in the division, in my view. Our resources don't compare to Fulham's. In relative terms, VI'S achievement of taking us to fifth exceeds anything a lot of managers will ever do. Certainly, losing in the play-offs on Barnsley's budget is better than winning them on Fulham's budget.
Not sure I agree with much in that other than agreeing Fulham had a much larger budget than most teams (football is opinions though). Doesn't always guarantee promotion though as some of the teams in League One and the lower half of the Championship will tell you. I wasn't going for a straight out comparison of who achieved the most in Parker and Big Val. Just that one has a promotion on their CV on the other doesn't - which to me labels neither as 'odd' appointments, especially with some of the football Fulham played under Parker last season. If he'd have been backed with a goalscorer I think they'd have stayed up. He's an impressive manager for me and the way he sets his team up to play is the way Bournemouth play and what they've recruited for.
