On balance I'd go for Jonathan Edwards. For defying gravity. Still world record holder. Plus he had to learn how to hop, step and jump!! p.s. our greatest present sportsman has to be Adam Peaty.

The title is "England's greatest ever sportsman." With that in mind it has to be CB Fry - no contest. He was great at every sport he played. Held the world long jump record whilst playing cricket and football for England. Played rugby Union for the Barbarians, was a good golfer and held long jump, high jump and hurdling records at Uni. He was born in a different era but his talent in so many different sports must surely make him the greatest.
