Wigan's points deduction had nothing to do with FFP. They were deducted points because their owners decided to pull the plug and called in the administrators, despite protests from their directors.

In the Wigan case, what amazed me more than most was how the day to day directors avoided any criticism. Basically saying they were running the club within the budgets agreed with the owners. Surely there must've been some red flags as they were assembling a squad whose salaries were around 170% of turnover, relying on the money of somebody they hardly knew.

% would seem the sensible thing to do, the problem with the whole system form top to bottom is that it is self governed and too many clubs can’t afford to swap to a %, so too many clubs will not vote for it.

The whole industry needs rules brought in to regulate from FIFA/UEFA so it is across the whole Football spectrum

It's to be remembered though that there are plenty of clubs where the owners are the directors or make up the large proportion. Ours is a good example of that, but we do have a couple of other directors without equity.

Whats also surprising me is the constant late filing of accounts by some clubs. Thats also a no-no and should be attracting the gaze of the EFL, HMRC and Companies House.

Yes, we need FIFA and UEFA to stop corruption, fraud, self interest and opacity of dealings in football.... *ahem*

Trouble is it can only be done by them to create a level playing field across all leagues.

There’s little wonder the game is such a mess when you look at the games ruling bodies. They do say a fish rots from the head.

Isn't this just a simple case of fraud/money laundering, which is subject to the UK legal system? (ie makes no difference of football rules overriding them as they cant, they are just that. Fraud and illegal)

Interesting I think they have hired our Mick because there is some belt tightening coming and they can see he kept Ipswich up with a reduced budget - I doubt they hired him because they are about to open the cheque book.

Well the managed to escape with no sanctions from anyone either criminal or football. Who says that cheats never prosper.
