You’d hope that the club and coach can have an honest conversation about what the budgets will be, what that’s likely to bring in and the sort of prices they’d be accepting for players, and whether that’s acceptable to the coach. In return the coach should be honest about whether he wants out. Both can then act accordingly. I think we’re more likely to get a straight answer from Ismael than we were from struber, who was ok with everything until he suddenly wasn’t.
The budget will remain same, Val knows this and hopefully so do the fans. Next season many clubs will be finally having to be financially prudent. This means wages and agent fees will remain stable or reduce. Teams will have squads with less big earners. This will allow us to compete, however we will need to sell to take the next step. Get the right price for assets, invest in replacements and hopefully start to be able to up our wage packages. Or maybe our new followers globally may want to invest? We got plenty of coverage in recent months in major worldwide publications.
Yeh, agree. I dont expect Val to say to the Sky cameras, 'yep, I'll be here next season for sure,' because how can he say that with any certainty? It's a business after all. Let the lad go on holiday, he's earned it.
They're just interviewing a guy who's coach of a team that just been knocked out of a playoff semi-final. He's just tired and disappointed and straight after the game isn't the right time to be talking about next season
Exactly! Dont get this 'he sounds like he knows he's off'- what? I know people are just worried, but as you say it's straight after the game, he's drained and processing the disappointment. Val strikes me as a man with integrity so whatever happens, I'll be okay with it. Just hope he stays.
I like how having listened to his interview people on here know for certain that he's going to leave!! They clearly know Val better than he knows himself
To be fair, Bielsa was similarly vague about his future when Leeds lost in the playoffs a couple of years ago. In the end he stayed, and took them up the next season.
He’s right un’all. We don’t have enough quality up front. Maybe that’s down to the style of football he likes to play I don’t know. Dike was never ours anyway, Morris looks like a reight laiker, Cauley doesn’t do enough IMO. Yes people bang on about all this contributing to the team etc, but take away his penalties, he’s not scored enough. The rest of the forwards, well. Don’t think they’d get in hardly any other Championship team, so why are they in ours if we have any ambition of moving forward. We need a overhaul up top for me.
I wouldn’t say he sounded like he was off but it will obviously all depend on what offers are on the table including us . He’d be mad not to have a look and to commit himself to going or staying is a non starter at this point in time .
West brom and Palace already linked to him think we have a big compo fee set for him like we did struber who we got 2 million euros for.
Big shoes to fill with Woy. Didn't realise, but they have quite a big list of out of contract players too. Think he'll need his holiday if the links are serious!
Maybe he thinks he'll be on a hiding to nothing if he stays . Be very hard to replicate this seasons achievement never mind better
I think it's important not to read too much into VIs interview minutes after losing a playoff semi final. Time for everyone to rest and then think about where we go from here ie the board, head coach ,players etc. I am sure agents.COE , owners etc will be working behind the scenes etc let's see how it all pans out and try to be optimistic
Let`s not jump to conclusions, I didn`t think he made any suggestion of not being here, but, it`s football and anything can happen. What I do believe is that we`re a much better prospect for attracting new players, they`ll look at our season and think there could be some success here, so, that striker that 12 months ago wouldn`t come may now think we`re a great prospect of achieving something. I for one am looking at next season with a positive mindset.
Yep, their out of contract list is huge! And their 2 best players (in my opinion) are Zaha who is apparently eying up a big move again and Eze who I believe has got a serious injury keeping him out until 2022. It is some job for someone to go in and take that, a complete overhaul needed. Also, I can’t see Benteke wanting to put a shift in like our Cauley does!
Have to agree on this. He has done an amazing job. I think we can reach more glory under him. I think we may start next season with Adam Murray, if he does decide to leave. He surely has learned a lot by now & has had credit from VI. Hopefully we have the real deal for one more campaign. It would restore my waning belief that English football is going in the right direction.
Out of interest, what contract is he on? Two or three year? Edit: sorry, should have followed my own advice. Three year. To be fair that should put us in the driving seat. I wouldn't be too happy if we found ourselves in a position where Val said he wanted to leave, 12 months into a 3 year contract
