For many its impossible to forget Brexit because it is a permanent state. It affects every single person in this country in some way or another. Some will be subtle, some will be much more obvious. But so much has changed with the route that was taken, and the effects are being lied about or suppressed. So whatever anyone else thinks or says, the disaster that is leaving the EU in the way we have is something I can't forget, ever, nor will I. People can vote for whoever they wish, all I ever hope is that votes are cast for the right reasons and try and evade manipulation by the true, but invisible power brokers of the country, but I appreciate I can do sod all about it if they are not.
I'll never forget Brexit. I may talk about it less and less as time goes on, but I'll never forget it, or forgive.
I like marmite AND cheese & onion crisps. Which I think makes me more enlightened & well rounded than most.
I had huge amounts of issues with the referendum, by Cameron, Corbyn, the media, the opportunists, just about everything about it was shockingly done. But the two issues that stood out above all else was that the referendum didn't outline what the choice truly were. The leave campaign were all over the place and didn't pin down what leave actually was. The remain campaign was shocking too. The actual benefits, even the function of it and how it operates just weren't covered. If Cameron and Corbyn had sales roles in any company I ran they would be summarily dismissed for the highest levels of ineptness. As a result, a referendum that had no legal basis was swept into being despite no true debate that discussed and shaped any real benefits of leaving the EU, to the benefits of remaining in it. It was an abject failure on organisation and democracy every way you look at it.
I always assume this was because you had someone who loved the EU campaigning to Leave, and someone ideologically opposed to the EU campaigning to remain. It's like Wednesday Fans trying to sell Brammall Lane and United Fans trying to sell Hillsborough. Imagine how enticing and factual the sales brochures would be.
There was just no effort though was there? Corbyn wouldn't share a platform with Cameron, abandoned key slots on media rounds, sabotaged through choice or incompetence the topics of the day by failing to have materials and speakers confirmed. I'll believe to the day I die that Corbyns aim was to gain Brexit by failing to convince more Labour voters to support remain. Ironic that it then assisted in doing for him and his party, The pure lies of DePfeffel and his acolytes that focussed on sentiment rather than any form of detail at all. And so on. Shambles, all of it.
And yet still people want to vote for one or the other and think it's the opposite side that's causing the problem.
The people of Scotland will go down as freedom fighters. Free from their tyrannical oppression by the Conservative Party. Nicola Sturgeon will ride out on a white stead like Joan of Arc or a Pheonix rising from the flames.
Politics has become a 2 party system in England and it seems to be shifting more to a 1 party system. Brexit is a prime example of people voting for some one to stop the other. It is what it is, and we're stuck with it for at least a generation. I'd hope when the referendum to rejoin comes around its conducted in a much better way, but if populism is still in the ascendency, that definitely won't be the case.
Nice sentiment Gravy. But sorry some things need more than a polite discussion. I hate everything Tories stand for. I ain't gonna change. And the gullible working class. Who are happy to see Brexit but Not care about workers rights eroded. Ask British gas. And we in my company are going through a difficult process. Cos this lot ain't finished. Get brexit done. Work for worse terms and conditions. Lots of Muppets. out there. The list is endless. People on the verge of losing thousands of pounds in salary. not prepared to take industrial action cos it'll cost em a few days wages. WTF are we coming to. Our ancestors must be turning in their graves watching this wimp of a society develop. Politics eh. Rant over. Bad night.
Have to say Dominic Cummings got it right. He knew that in a referendum most people will vote for things to stay the way they are, mainly out of apathy. He also saw the vote not as a Labour/Conservative issue. The vote ended up being tight but he swayed it by using data to profile people and blitz the right people with a constant stream of lies and deceptions.
He changed everything by getting people to lie and get away with it. Its the sad undeniable truth that the campaign turned completely as soon as migration and xenophobia was whipped up.
I I hear what you say and much is good and well written, however my own personal experiences play a large part to my political thinking. I certainly don’t have a narrative pumped into me by any Social Media or news outlet or even simply traditionally where I come from influence that. I would truly love to live in a society where politics are not designed to be divisive and driven only by what’s best for the good of all, who wouldn’t. Instead we live with lies, mistrust and a constant attack on ordinary people which is often disguised by people who are filled with the lust for power, control and financial greed. Only then can we all fully accept that another point of view is just that instead of it being used to fuel the tribalism politics that has now become more widespread. This current Govt. epitomises what’s not to like in Politics.
We seemed to have a month of lies about Turkey imminently joining the EU. Still nowhere near happening. The NHS lie. It wouldn't surprise me at all if some of the money leave raised through back channels ended up in traffickers pockets to whip up a bit of asylum seeker hatred.
He was asked in some talk why he engineered the vote and wanted out of the the EU. He said it was to keep Britain away from the rise of extremism in Europe. So, to avoid extremism, he actually whipped up extremism to achieve the result he wanted. Genius.
How many remain voters calmly sat down one to one with a leave voter and both had a heart to heart, respectful conversation which allowed each other to explain their points and counterpoints and to try and influence the other via reasoned debate? More to the the point how many people on either side had the knowledge or even the will to do it? Far far more people on both sides were just typing in caps locks on Twitter hurling abuse back an forth. I also think what muddied the waters was that the Conservatives were technically pushing the leave campaign and a great number of people who might have voted leave refused to do so because the Tories were backing it, and a great number of Corbyn/socialism haters refused to vote remain because they were backing it. It was a big c0ck up.
