Think the defence improved significantly when the decision was made to stop f--cking about with the ball at the back. We were still doing it in the games struber oversaw. Helik is a quality addition granted and is in the top 2 for me.
Suspended against Chelsea in the league cup, but dropped to the bench against Wednesday and Wycombe before Christmas. There were some dodgy moments between him and Andersen at times earlier in the season. Helik has had an excellent season, and would make my top 3, but I don’t think he’s the clear winner some suggest. Personally, I think Mowatt edges it. He carried the midfield at the start of the season. Once VI took over we won games before signing dike and Morris, largely because he and James dominated the midfield in games. Then from feb onwards, his goals, assists and set pieces were vital.
What a lad Mads is. Not an easy thing to do to crack 4,000 minutes in a season. You've got to play at a high standard to stay in the team, not get injured and try not to get suspended.
Each to their own, of course, but personally I'd find it amusing if we awarded it to a midfielder after a season where we've spent huge portions of most matches bypassing the midfield altogether.
8 goals and 7 assists isn’t bad for someone that’s supposedly been bypassed. Even with this style of play, we play better when the midfield play well.
Disagree with that. As Leythtyke has said, his goal and assist record is pretty good. Also, the amount of pressing and work Mowatt gets through is pretty damn incredible, often winning the ball and/or harrying the opposition so the ball doesn’t reach our defence.
Like I said, each to their own. I can see why Mowatt is a popular choice, based on stats alone, but for me he goes missing too often. I appreciate there are other aspects to his game besides goals and assists, but it's still not enough for me. I find myself moaning about him far too often to give him my vote. Obviously I won't be moaning if he scores in the play-off final.
Here's the ratings from whoscored.com. Obviously, it's derived from an algorithm but personally, I think this is pretty accurate reflection of the player ratings for the season.
