Nope! The racing and the football is good today. If I exhaust that I'll do some more painting in the hallway before watch Mail Order v the "Jester"!
Oh dear! Kaht Junior has just reminded me that having 'rolled over' our tickets again to the first session next year, we'll have to watch one of these two jokers beginning their defence!
And I would gladly pass them on to you. But at the age of 18 months we realised that our will would henceforth be subjugated to that of Kaht Junior. She is now 35!
Watching Selby the last few days has really put me off the game. Love the worlds, take my mum every year (in ‘normal’ times). It’s appalling television and some changes are needed before it dies a complete death.
Brilliant matchplay snooker imho. They are playing for the World Title. Opportunities don't come along very often for players nowadays as there are so many good players, they've got to make the most of it
Sorry but I find him extremely boring to watch. How he merits the name " the Jester". He is to jest what a lighted cig end is to the Forestry Commission.
Can’t believe Shaun didn’t try to play safe off that last red if he’d won that frame he would have won the title
I know gamesmanship is inevitable in professional sport but him taking over well over a minute for pretty much every safety he has played the last few days is taking the Mick. I know he’s entitled to do what he wants within the laws of the game but nah, that’s not for me. There’s been a lot of talk recently about modernising the game to get people interested and it’s desperate needed in my opinion. Maybe a 30 second shot clock but each player is allowed one ‘time out’ per frame where it stops for 2 minutes. Imagine paying an absolute fortune and getting tickets for the final session of a semi final and not getting to see the end. It’s pathetic.
Selby is in quite the elite list to win at least four world titles. Off the post match interviews I think Murphy should pinch Jester as his own nickname.
He was never going to pot it after getting down, getting back up, grimacing and then going for it anyway
It’s certainly not RH. He’s in a very select group and in unquestionably in the all time top 10. None of his previous 3 have left a sour taste and we’re richly deserved but he basically won this years by boring Bingham and Murphy sh1tl3ss. Not his problem. It’s professional match play, I get it’s about winning and nothing else but I can’t believe anyone watching for the first time or revisiting the game in the last few days will be in a rush to watch again. Steve Davis was talking about the other day how there’s far less UK snooker talent emerging these days and he was worried about the long term future of the game. And I’m afraid Selby’s silly beggars encapsulates that perfectly. He won’t care but he’ll inspire no-one the way he carries on. When I was a pup my mum and late grandad were obsessed with it so I grew to love snooker. I had my own little table and would recreate the shots I’d just seen White, Davis et all play on the telly. I played (rather badly!) in my youth etc. Apart from the latter stages of the worlds I rarely bother now, and I know I’m not alone in that. The game really needs a shake up!
Crawling in to bed after one of the best live events I’ve ever been to. 14 months we’ve had to wait to see live sport with a capacity crowd and it was a perfect reminder as to why it’s so important for so many of us. Proper atmosphere and if only that red had dropped in we’d have seen the roof come off the crucible. I love tactical snooker but I just can’t bring myself to find the time for Selby, regardless of his obvious talent. He just takes too long, too often, and takes the safety shot way out too many times. Some of those safety shots are incredible mind. The guy is brilliant. He just drains the life out of you. Obviously the feeling and enjoyment was exasperated by how much that feeling has been missed rather than it being the best final ever, but it got me thinking. One registered Covid death yesterday. Now over 50 million jabs. And we don’t even know if we can sit outside at Oakwell for a playoff semi final. Let that sink in for a second - data not dates.
There are still a lot of young snooker players with immense talent, look at the things Judd Trump can do with the cue ball. Plenty to try to copy as a young kid. Thing is, there's also a lot of other things for kids to watch and do as well.
