After a shaky start the owners Thankfully we got 49 points last season without cheating , thats what kept us up , we cannot control what other cheating clubs do , if they get caught out then its their fault & must pay the price
The next few months will be interesting. If we don’t get promoted I believe all of Mowatt, Dike & Val will be gone before the new season starts & we’ll also have incoming offers for Brittain, Styles, Helik & Anderson & I’d imagine all will want to leave if it’s a significant wage increase on offer.
Seems a strange statement to make when you’ve got no idea what the truth is. What if (and I’m not saying I think this is necessarily the case at all - it’s just an example) as part of the original sale agreement there was a clause that stated that if the club were relegated in that first season (which we were) that the price drops? All I’m saying is that we’ve got no idea the reasoning or any of the facts behind what’s gone on. It seems prudent to me to wait for the result of the legal case and make the decision based on that. If they’re not legally obligated to pay the money as per the contract signed, I don’t understand how they can be morally obligated to do so.
Totally agree and got forbid if we fail to go up - what would we judge next season having a successful outcome being if we lost all or most of those players. Would imagine would probably be back to fighting back down the wrong end of the table again.
I'd say establishing ourselves as a championship club would award the owners my highest marks. I want to start a season not expecting a relegation scrap. All clubs make bad appointments and decisions, it's the overall picture during their tenure that's important when assessing how well they've done.
In my opinion, the judgement is based upon your own personal expectations, your own criteria for success and your own perspective based upon your past experiences of supporting the club. I have been a supporter for more than 50 years, and for a lot of that time it has been a struggle against the odds because the club has not had the finances that others have. Many will see finance merely from the perspective of the money injected by the owners through loans/increases in share capital, but finance also comes from the level of support, both by the fans and by outside commercial companies. In both respects, the club is behind the clubs they compete with on a weekly basis. On that basis, to have achieved anything like we have this season must be seen as outstanding, and I write that even though I personally hate the way that the team plays. The owners have created the environment that others have used to generate this success, but the owners deserve some of the credit. It is their policy of sticking to the forward press that has been responsible for the consistency of the last 3 coaching appointments, and it has meant that the club no longer has to re-invent the wheel when it changes coaches. Of course, many will perceive their lack of further investment as a negative. However, in their defense, they never said that they saw BFC as an investment vehicle. We have seen how Chansiri took a different view at Sheffield Wednesday, and what a disaster that has been. Investors/owners wanting to make money out of football will make sure that they do not fall into that trap, and that is what our owners ultimately want to do. They want to sell the club for more than they have invested into it, and that is bound to limit any further investment. Buying the ground, and investing in upgrading stands would force them to increase their investment, either through loans, or through an increase in share capital. That would mean that the selling price that they must get for the club when they come to sell it, also has to increase, because ultimately, they want to make a profit from their ownership of BFC. They believe that they can do that by managing the club better than others do it, and by being patient. So far, their management can hardly be faulted, although luck has also played a significant part. So far, they have managed the club very well. They have invested in players only after they have created the funds by selling, and like it or not, that is the way that clubs like Barnsley FC must be run. The system for identifying the right player acquisitions was already there, and James Cryne deserves much of the praise for the original design, but from what I read, the club has extended the system since the current owners took over, and the system can only work effectively if the player search criteria that the system is working towards are workable and sensible, and 'buy young, improve and sell on' has played a significant part in their successful management. Of course there are going to be more player sales, but that is the way that the club trades profitably, and there is simply no alternative. Personally, I am used to the club selling players that I have great admiration for. The club has always had to do it, and when it happens, I simply move on and hope that our next acquisition will be as successful as the last. The club is more important than any single individual.
Fine margins for me this time last year most people would have given them a F- For me the negatives promising fans on the concourse at Burnley in the f.a Cup a big january window then selling potts in the middle of a promotion campaign, the embarrassing sacking of stendel, selling kieffer Moore a week before the window ended with no replacement lined up, selling both stand out center halfs at the same time, conway couldn't talk enough in the promotion season when things onnthe pitch turned he went into hibernation, the feud with the crynes isn't good. Jury's still out for me I like dane but let's see what happens in the summer etc.
As always. For me.....an accurate assessment of where we are and what we're about and what the future looks like. Deapite the view of others his, this board is a better place when we have a contribution from RR.
I’d say a B- is probably a fair assessment. They have made some mistakes and shown signs of learning from them. Negatives - Stendel statement, Conway and some of his sound bites and promises. Morais appointment. Letting GG go without a decent replacement lined up. I’m also going to add in Transfer policy in Summer after being promoted. Positives - Managerial appointments, Dane, signs of learning from mistakes in transfer window. Some shrewd transfers, ability to keep us financially sound. COVID related decisions. I’ve not included Ground/Cryne etc as we don’t know the details on that except it hasn’t been completed.
Clearly what’s needed here is the return of Peter Doyle. A great business man, a doyen of public speaking and a committed reds fan. When there’s a profit to be made. Like.
