Teamslikebarnsley alert.... 3/4 of Oakwell is newer and better than a few PL grounds including Burnley and Fulham. I'd say that Oakwell is a far better stadium than the Cottage. Did anyone say this time last year that Fulham can't play in the PL because of their ground? Err no they didn't.
Shows how out of touch Goughy is praising the pitch. It’s not as bad as some on here make out but it’s far from good
If his club can get in the Championship with a Southern Conference league ground ours is more than adequate for the Prem .
Bournemouth. Fantastic stadium and capacity. The nob has never seen oakwell. Tongue in cheek or not he's a nob. A posh nob at that.
If we win the Play-Offs there will be another ballot of clubs in the Premier League to decide whether they want Barnsley in the top flight or not.
The problem is, the 1/4 of the stadium that is badly dated is the area that he and the media will have experienced. And the club have admitted that a hell of a lot of work would be needed to the West Stand if we were to be promoted. That, and the fact that he says this stuff to wind people up to get a reaction.
Well we already know it's not fit for the prem. That's why the auditors that have been will have given Dane Murphy a massive list of things that need to get it ready should we go up. Huddersfield have a ground less than thirty years old and even they had to make a lot of changes...... https://www.examinerlive.co.uk/sport/football/news/watch-behind-scenes-huddersfield-town-13361446 We have a north stand that was built to be split but we can't and when a big away following comes it can't have every seat used with usually close to a thousand seats out of use. We only use half of our west stand and the facilities there are dreadful from leg space, restricted viewing, toilets, uncovered etc. Even the other two home ends have small concourses that are cramped when at capacity.
Fulham have played in the Premier League this season with a three sided ground and none of their other stands are as good as our Ponty End, North & East Stands. Even if Covid hadn't occurred, there'd still only have been those stands available. Some improvements will have to be made to the West Stand. But I'll only think about that IF we win promotion. I appreciate the club can't adopt my attitude, though.
Probably hasn't been here since the Brewery Stand, Ponty End and North Stand were rebuilt. Ignorance is sometimes very revealing about how much someone's current knowledge. Hmmm. Who does he support?
It's usually good isn't it? Just bad this year because they didn't have time to do the usual pre season prep
Up to this year it was. Unfortunately, although he might have been treading Darren most listeners will think he's right who haven't been to the ground.
I think the last time he was there was for the Fulham opening game last season. He's a bit of a shock jock and as others have noted tends to say unreasonable things to provoke a reaction. That's his role. As a venue to watch football, Oakwell is absolutely miles ahead of most souless, off the shelf modern stadiums. And yes the west stand does need updating, but I love it and hope modernisation can be done in a sensitive way.
