All I know is that if there’s a half chance falling to anyone in the box I’d rather it be Cauley than anyone else in a red shirt.
I don't think Woodrow is a number 10 particularly. I think we saw the best of him when he was alongside Moore. I also think he tends to score in spells. If he can get a goal against Rotherham, we might benefit from him being more composed and being more clinical like we're used to from him. At present because he gets so little service in the areas he thrives, when he gets the ball with a low chance of scoring, its like it's his last meal. I'm not that sure yet if Dike suits that front 3. And we certainly played better football without him for the first 44 minute or so. But he scored again as on of the best chances of the game fell to him. But Morris... I'm very impressed with him, and if people are happy to throw silly figures around of Dike's value, take that number and double it for Morris.
Not sure why you’d try to change something that’s not broken and don’t think there’s any prospect of VI tinkering with a system that has put us in this wonderful situation.
I honestly don't know what Woodrow's best position. I feel sorry for him in that he's had to play three positions in the last year. Throughout the season I'd felt one of the wider areas would be best for him in this system, mainly because of the chances that fell to Frieser, Chaplin, Vic that Woodrow would've left to get on the end of. As for Dike, not sure we played better without him on the pitch, we totally dominated the second half, and again, he scored from a chance that I think only he or Morris would've taken. Can't see Woodrow scoring with the ball bouncing behind him like that. We can agree on Morris at least
I don't think we're too far apart. I think where Dike and Woodrow could compliment each other is in their positions for a cross if we've got in behind (though we rarely get into those positions). Woodrow would drop to the penalty spot, Dike would keep going. I think my perception of us playing better first half was that the ball to feet stuck more. For both Woodrow and Morris. Dikes control and lay off is probably his weakest facet. And it's why I'd favour Morris and Woodrow in the starting line up. But Dike keeps getting in the right place and his athleticism is impressive. It's still very early days for that front 3 but as yet they don;t look like an attacking trio all in harmony, but they've had little time all playing at the same time so I wouldn't really expect that, but I doubt they'll have time beyond this season to form a trio sadly. And I would have fancied other of our players scoring the chance Dike had, just not the way he did it.
Al just leave it to guy that`s got us here and has improved certain players. He knows what he`s doing
I could go with that. Dike has that natural ability to be in the right place to receive the ball and have a goal-scoring chance. Woodrow brings creativity and link-up
Strange how football fans watch the same match with different conclusions ey? I thought we were good first half. But I thought we were absolutely fantastic the second.
I didn't come away thinking it was a fantastic performance. Good, solid, professional, safe. We're still a very wasteful team with the ball and our attacking isn't that fluent and looks less so with Dike, despite him getting on the score sheet so much. To class it as fantastic, we'd have to be much better with the ball. Out of possession, as we've commonly been under Ismael, we were very good though.
Palmer was the second best player on the park after Sollbauer last night. You’d be mad to drop him after his best game in a reds shirt
Considering how old our squad is, the money spent on said squad, how defensively astute we were, I would definitely consider it a fantastic performance for Barnsley. How many players do they have in their side, who individually cost more than our whole squad put together? We did snatch at good chances, but there were some good pieces of goal line clearances from their point of view. We completely controlled that game for the most part. So proud of this team, the progress we have made is monumental.
Maybe you were subliminally influenced by the big word FANTASTIC behind the goal, one of the sponsors ;-) Seriously though, it was much much better. But i'd only use the word fantastic if its something to rave about. For me, I'd rave about more attacking free flowing expansive football of the the type we saw under Wilson, Heckingbottom for a short period and Stendel. I can appreciate the ugly side of the game, but it's never something I'd consider fantastic.
I never used to like the "ugly" side of the game either, however it's growing on me as I get older (cue the old jokes ) and I absolutely love how Valerien outthinks and outwits opposing managers with his tactics and substitutions.
Thankfully I think that VI sees the value and contribution of Woodrow that I believe the majority of us do.
Tempted to rest Andersen for at least 45. The kid is immense but it is a big shift he has put in recently. I prefer Kane to Palmer but Palmer deserves another start after Wednesday, great game. Mix it about up front, knacker them and go for the jugular 2nd 45 Collins Sol Helik Sibbick Brittain Mowatt Palmer Styles Chaplin Woodrow Adeboyejo Subs (to use) Morris Dike Andersen (if needed) Halme Kane Marsh
