Palmer was absolutely outstanding today. Definitely doesn't deserve to be dropped after this performance. Some people starting to have a weird little agenda against him - not suggesting you.
I like to have one of Morris or Dike to come on as sub, but don't mind which. It's like pressing the reset button if we're struggling
Depends on what condition Morris is in. Might be a bit much to start on Saturday after playing 90 mins Wednesday off the back of managing an injury for weeks. But if he can start, he should.
Dike scored though. I just think he'd benefit from a rest. Play seems to just end when he gets the ball at the minute, he either gets bullied off it or he elects to shoot when there are better options. Don't get me wrong, he's a great player, I just think he's due a game on the sidelines.
The last time Woodrow didn’t start a game, was Brentford away in February and has started 15 games for us since then. There’s a reason he’s played so many games in a row is because he’s one of our best players and makes us tick. I can’t see Val dropping him now. I thought he played quite well last night and never begrudge a striker trying to take his chances unless there’s a clear and obvious pass for an easy goal.
I actually think when we play the ball into him, we look so much more dangerous, same with Morris. Woodrows build up play has massively improved this season and he's a lot stronger. Its fairly regular now where he actually passes to a colleague with his chest. The sad thing is he's having to drop much further away from goal to do it and when he's nearer goal and gets a slight sniff, he's snatching at things because he's not getting clean cut chances. All the clear cut chances are falling to Dike. Which is a skill in itself, but when Dike is on the pitch the front 3 become more of a triangle than flatter. Dike is getting the reward of goals while his build up play is poor. Woodrow is doing lots of the spade work and involved in many of our better moves, but he isn't getting the rewards.
Just so there's no doubt, I see Woodrow as an integral part of the team too, but it doesn't seem to be quite happening for him at the moment and as we're now entering the squeaky bum end of the season I think giving him a match off might do him the world of good. He might take being dropped as an opportunity to recharge his batteries after a long-ass season or he might take it badly and want to prove a point next time he plays... Either way, we win.
I still can't help looking at the players we've got and thinking something similar to Struber's 4 3 1 2 would be ideal for these players now. Collins Brittain, Helik, Andersen, Williams (J) Styles, Mowatt, Palmer Woodrow (in a free role just behind) Dike and Morris. But that's why I'm not a football manager and the fact Val is and that we're in the play offs tells me I need to stop expressing opinions on things I clearly know nothing about.
I think Woodrow and Dike are wearing each other's shirt numbers. There was uproar on here when Struber played Woodrow as a 10, but it's looking like his position. Dike is proving to be a goalscorer / poacher. He's getting into positions that Woodrow wasn't previously doing to get his goals. Overall, I think Woodrow, Dike and Morris are a good combination. With Morris being the most important to our play.
