I hear Neville arguing that it must be stopped, supported by the football authorities and now the government. I also hear many fans who want it to go ahead so that we can boot out the six clubs and get rid of them from our national leagues etc because they are acting purely through greed and that it would revalue the leagues with the clubs that remain. What exactly do we want?
Reform of our game within the same competitive structure we've had all our lives. In my opinion, with the famous clubs in there acting in a way that respects tradition and working class fans.
If players aren’t allowed to play for their Countries then recruitment becomes very difficult for these clubs . Unless Boris decides to alter the rules again to aid the rich . Oh a possible board Seat when he’s eventually voted out .
Lets put Brexit to good use. Let's charge a 99% "import" tax on all away tickets from any of the non-English clubs, and a massive levy on any PPV matches originating from the UK. Let's price the fans out of it, and watch when they come crawling back when it's as dead as a dodo.* *n.b. Please note that this is not a serious suggestion. Or is it? We shall never know!
For me the best case scenario is them going ahead with the ESL and being kicked out of the domestic system. However, the worst case scenario is them going ahead with the ESL and being able to stay in the domestic system. If it gets stopped altogether I'm not that bothered. That makes it tricky, because the difference between what I want to happen and what I really don't want to happen is entirely dependent on the Premier League standing up and taking the likely short-term hit to revenue in the hope that something better comes out of it eventually.
Let them go but let us all band together and boycott their games. No TV audience means no money. Let their greed kill thenselves
The game needs to do what cricket did during the Kerry Packer WSC fiasco. Ban all players who sign up for it from any UEFA, FIFA, PL, EFL, *insert name of the governing body here* matches while they are registered,
Unfortunately the tv audience they want is global more Shanghai than Salford. But all English based fans should boycott them.
The Packer situation was a good thing, it got the best international players paid a proper wage. Before that the authorities of each country basically took all the profits. This is greed vs greed on steroids. Would a top player rather earn 150 million or 300 million over the course of a career. Would a billionaire be happy with 3 or 10 billion?
I would like them thrown out of the domestic system, subject to being given a 24 hour ultimatum to see sense.
If they go ahead with it, kick them out and ban the players from playing international football. If the EPL/EFL withdraw their share (as is the case with a club that doesn’t pay its football creditors) then don’t all the player contracts terminate? The players can then have the choice between being the Haarlem Globetrotters of football or signing for another club.
