I know someone that didn’t go because it was only the JPT and he didn’t expect it to be much of an occasion. He watched it on telly and really regretted not bothering. Fantastic day
I'll never, ever understand people who wrote off that as a non event. Proud day for me, I loved it. It's the only Winners trophy I've ever seen us lift.
Adam Hammill especially! https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/10298437/hammill-scores-wonder-goal-at-wembley
Barnsley? At Wembley? A Cup Final? 23,000 Reds fans backing them? "Not much of an occasion? Not surprised he regretted not going, it was a fantastic occasion, and I doubt I'll ever see them lift a silver cup again, and in such a friendly rivalry environment. The Oxford fans were great, banter was exchanged, (though I think we won it with the rowing boat lads!) flat caps were in abundance, weather was warm and sunny, beer was flowing, noise levels amazing, Reds came from a goal down and Wembley and the world saw a wonder goal from Adam Hammill. Without doubt my all time favourite away day!
It was fantastic wasn’t it? I didn’t get all the derisory comments on here at the time. Mickey Mouse tournament? Waste of time? Well, maybe it is if u get knocked out but it was a thrilling journey to Wembley for me and trips there do not come round very often in any of our lifetimes.
This is crazy to me. We could be in the doldrums of the conference and if we got to FA Vase final id be there cheering on the lads. Absolutely fantastic day, and the Oxford fans there were a credit to their club. Loved it
Young Nudger didn't go if I remember correctly for similar reasons. What a plank! It was absolutely amazing!
I know a few who shared that attitude. Barmy. An incredible day. It might have ended up overshadowed a bit by the Millwall win a few weeks later but it’s still one of my favourite Barnsley games
