https://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/...g-manager-paunovic-reaction-barnsley-20313650 Just read this article, when you look at the stats in terms of shots on goal, possession etc we dominated them in fact apart from the goal the goal they got they created nothing as the other chances they had were our mistakes - all for giving your team the big up after a game but ffs lets be honest about it - Paunovic trying to put lipstick on a pig here imo - thoughts anyone?
'Our gameplan worked' - so their gamelan was to play for freak defensive blunders. I know we've got some of those in us but it's a pretty negative approach to be relying on mistakes from the opposition. If it weren't for two lapses in concentration from andersen (first half) and styles (second half) literally the only meaningful thing they'd have created all game would have been the goal. I thought we were much the more positive and likely to create something. We didn't have many clear cut opportunities but plenty of pressure and on another day the ball could have fallen differently and we'd have bagged a couple from open play.
If we'd had their two gifted chances and the only goal from open play I'm sure we'd be saying the same For me though, both teams had their chances and better patches throughout the game, so a draw imo is fair.
Collins should av known there player wa behind him not just styles fault could av easily been cleared anyway also there goal my opinion but should av been saved went under his arms i think.
They had three chances. The first was a blunder from Anderson. For the goal we messed up the press and had Sibbick been playing I think he’d have got there. The third was, well, comical. I think after we scored we had a lot of sustained pressure and could and probably should have won it. Their game plan was to try and play football through the lines for the first half an hour, which didn’t work at all. They then resorted to playing on the counter. Interesting game plan if that’s what it was.
At one point of the second half i was begining to think they had sussed us. Their no.14 was superb and were shoving that ball over the top into corners for runners very well. Thankfully we pressed more and worked even harder and deserved at least a point. They are a decent side but flopping to the floor and screaming as they did so, for every 50/50 was annoying the hell out of me. The refs in this division are been "worked" by too many teams and its spoiling games. Luton are another team who will have 5 players screaming at the ref at every tackle, just hope we get our job done.
It was styles fault he played the pass, he had a decent game apart from that suicidal pass. But he also got caught in possession for wednesdays 2nd goal before the international break.
Not sure how he watched that game and can honestly say they were the better team. They weren't we gifted them 2 great chances to score anderson in the 1st half and styles 2nd apart from that they created next to nothing. We hit the post and had a perfectly good goal rules out and created actual chances. I said before the game they needed to win, throughout the game the trying to influence the officials at every opportunity and after the game the players and managers interviews you can tell they know they have a very hard run in coming and have now slipped out of the play offs when they have been 6th or above most of the season. Definitely needs to watch the game back though if he thinks they were the better team and created the better chances.
They created one real chance with a long punt up field, the other two they missed were from Andersen’s mistake and styles back pass.
Would someone like to explain why styles wasn't sent off against Wednesday for the 2nd goal ? Don't think he was even booked looking after the match He got caught in possession then deliberately made a professional foul against there player taking him out he was the last man the player had knocked the ball forward and he was in full flight and would have been gone. there were two other Sheff Weds players square a bit further back , no Barnsley player was anywhere near him , the nearest Barnsley players were 10/15 yard further forward one facing the other way and stood still there was no way he could have been intercepted by anyone. Mads couldn't get within ten yards of windass and the other player was infront of him when taken out
I honestly cant understand what he saw to believe they were the better team. The shots on goal, on target, possession etc all in our favour. I get stats dont always reflect a game but all were in our favour. Then on the pitch we hit the post twice and had a goal disallowed. They had two good chances, but if he sees those as justification for being the better team i see the opposite. They missed the target on both occasions suggesting they were poor. At best he can claim an even game.
All I saw yesterday was a Reading team that couldn't handle not having time and space to play their football and where throwing them self's to the floor trying to get free kicks and players booked so they could get some space to try to create.
If what I witnessed for 90 minutes last night was their "gameplan" for every match then Reading shouldn't need to worry about the Play Offs. Mid table, and a nice long summer break beckons for them
