Made a profit the season's before that. Get to the Prem, or sell Toney and they'll be ok agsin.

Have they looked down the back of the sofa? Often when I lose stuff it's down the back of the sofa.

Made a profit but still in huge debt to the owner with a wage bill something like 150% of their revenue. Unsustainable model that completely collapses if you don’t get promoted and have one year of poor recruitment.

They’ve got Toney but I’m not sure he fetches in the same money as Watkins did. He might. But nobody else that will get them big bucks this time. My worry for them if they don’t get to the Premier League is the first time their new striker doesn’t work out for them.

£9.1m loss in today’s game is loose change. If that’s the extent of their losses for last season, we’ll done them.

Virtually all teams will post a loss for last season our own included. Fanless grounds are a money pit

Brentford are no different to Wigan, Chelsea or Man City. As long as Matthew Benham is willing to bank roll the club they are fine. The same went for Wigan with Dave Whelan. The list of unsustainable clubs is a long one, only last week we had Bournemouth reporting a loss of £60m.

Until football puts its house in order or billionaires lose interest, football clubs will always be on the brink of oblivion if they cease to be the plaything of their owner. Oh for a sustainable successful team!

Around 50m from player sales not included in those accounts.

Link doesn't work but Brentford are still owed £20 million for Benrahma so in effect they made another £11 million profit.

But they probably owe money for Toney, Goode and all the other players they signed in the summer. Most transfers are done in installments over a number of seasons now.

I can’t get past their owner putting in £100 million of his own money. Everything else is largely a result of that.

Report is based on accounts to 30 June. Sales after that wouldn’t be included e.g £25-33m for Benrhama.

Difference with Chelsea and Man City is their big spending has made them into top clubs again, winning silverware and buying top players. As much as they live in la la land they will always be of interest to rich investors, even if just for the sake of vanity. It’s the same throughout much of the prem and the top leagues of Europe.

You have to look at some of the gates the league one hobby clubs were getting before being taken over. Wigan 2k and the rest 5 or 6k crowds - there is always the danger that if you takeaway what’s attracted the extra numbers and they’re back to that core support.

I read a comment from a Wigan fan calling us a ‘shitty little club’, but we compare very well considering we’ve not gone down the overspending route. Our gates are prior to lockdown were very decent so we weren’t reliant on being propped up.
