Sky sports showing FIFA 21 esports live .... don't get me wrong I'm a sad, middle aged gamer but not sure about this being on a sports channel. Must be enough interest to get this on their own channel
It.is massive to be fair - son of someone I worked with won 40k in a gaming tournament and qualified for world champs with a prize of a million pound. Not sure about it in sky sports on a Friday night though
Seriously? That’s shocked me that has. 40 grand? I think I might need to dig out my old PlayStation and get a new hobby. £1 million prize money for what Im guessing is a target audience of teenagers is just incredible. Fair play to them.
Yep 40k - the World Champs were in Rio. Figures are incredible - gaming industry is bigger than film industry in terms of turnover
Why not? Watching the best people at their craft competing against each other. Is it much different to watching sports? There are esports competitions with multi million dollar prize pools. I think there was one a couple of years ago that was about $35 million or something.
Pretty sure most of the audience at these events are early 20s to late 30s rather than teenagers. The biggest ones are watched live by 10s of millions of people and they fill huge stadiums. I’m not sure I’d go to watch live in a stadium, but I’ve watched them online in the past and had a good time.
Bet this will shock a few. Shots from the crowd at one of these events. Not too sure what’s happening in the game if I’m honest but everyone seems to be having a great time.
I am in that category and I’ve never heard of such a thing. It might be a thing where rival fans rib us about Barnsley not having electricity and running water.
