Probably reading way too much into this, but over the last week or so the Twitter page has posted two photos of the old iron gates on Ponty road. Why? Might we have bought that land? Would be perfect for say, a new stadium. Ground ownership issues, random photos on twitter, obviously all adds up to a new ground
I like your thinking. It would certainly be better than buying Wigan's ground on the cheap and selling it to Tesco in order to secure the funds to renovate Oakwell.
While the Brewery land might be large enough to accommodate a new stadium, putting in car parks and training pitches might be an issue. I believe Sam Smith's hold a plot near Oakwell, probably purchased to thwart any expansion plans their near neighbours in Tadcaster, John Smiths, might have had. This piece of land was the block to Barnsley MBC's plan to drive a link road from Harborough Hill to Pontefract Road despite the fact that John Smiths had closed the brewery down years before. For now I wouldn't read too much in to this. It could be land acquired to drive a new access road to the current stadium from Pontefract Road. I'm almost sure there were plans to create an extra car park on the East Stand side and with the fan zone taking up a chunk of the existing parking on that side of the stadium it would make sense to expand parking there and make access and exit easier.
I think you're reading way too much into this, it's just an 'artistic' shot of the ground using the 'Barnsley' on the gate as a caption.
Yeah, I think I'm putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5. Just seemed peculiar that they'd use similar photos 7 days apart.
Would anyone accept it if we remained at Oakwell but did a Tottenham and buy the brewery land and pivot the pitch 90 degrees. Would it still be classed as Oakwell?
I’d be saddened but not actively against a new stadium on the Brewery land tbh. As long as it was done properly with no hindrance and a well planned stadium which could in theory host other events such as Rock concerts etc . The alternative at somewhere like Dodworth , Hoyland etc wouldn’t cut it with me tbh.
As long as it was a thirty thousand capacity it wouldn't bother me either. I'm happy with things as long as it's progress. Some fans mentioned a 15,000 seater stadium because we never fill the ground. That would be backward step.
