Jonathan Woodgate staying on til end of season now. Bit of a strange one. He's in temporary charge. Obviously knows Henry interviewed for his job. Now it's not happening. Wonder what's gone off there?!? I've a feeling if they don't go up this time they'll drop like a stone over next few seasons.
They probably have a shot at it next season as well, and then the exodus will begin. Regardless, they won't go up under Woodgate, whether it's this season, next season, or any other.
In the last three days Wagner, Viera and Henry have all been nailed on for the job. Parachute payments last three years don’t they? So they have some time left yet. Plus the owner isn’t afraid to bankroll.
Henri majestic footballer but bombed so far in management, fairly spectacularly too. I wouldn’t want him at Oakwell. Nor Woodgate either.
Garth Crooks gave a great denouement of the appointment of Thierry Henry or any other well known former footballer, becoming a Manager. Just because he was a good footballer doesn't mean they will make a good manager. They all need to learn how to coach at a low level ,I like the continental method of developing coaches,it's based on skill and knowledge, not being famous.
From the outside looking in I'd say the opposite. King sold. Keeper £20 odd million to Sheff Utd. Would appear the owners are cashing in post PL. ?!?
I agree wholeheartedly. I'm no golfer but someone once told me that non (at the time) golf coaches to the elite players were any sort of players.......... it stuck with me that. The only plus I could add to the opposite view is if Henry is in training (and he's a bad coach) then because of his playing career you'd just be thinking ..... well it's Henry. But that'll I reckon only last for so long.
Don’t want to talk them into good form but I’d love them to give Woodgate the job. Those last 2 playoff places are certainly up for grabs for a lot of teams in my opinion.
Just need look no further than Frank Lampard. Getting jobs from his reputation, not his ability as a coach
Some work and some don't. When Viv and Danny came to us shortly after Viv went to be Bryan Robsons chauffeur at Boro John Dennis admitted they'd appointed the wrong one.
My ex boss once said to me (he hated sport) during Tiger Woods pomp. Why does Woods have a coach? It’s not because the coach is more talented and passing down wisdom, but because a coach has the discipline to practise and motivate.
You’ve always got to expect to lost three or four. Norwich moved a couple on like Godfrey at Everton. King out off contract in the Summer, keeper sold for way more than he’s worth, so probably good business all in all?
What coaching qualifications did Clarkie have in 1978? Looking back I think he was very lucky, we had a decent squad (Chambers, Springett, Little, McCarthy, Joicey, Miller etc). I suspect that him playing and the goals he scored probably did more than his coaching or his (non-existent according to Glav) man-management.... I think all that was subsequently confirmed in his time at Leeds and second spell at Oakwell.
I cant disagree fella. It's been a strange season ...... just feel the Bournemouths and Brentfords have shot their bolts. 2-3 seasons after Hull, Ipswich and maybe Stoke might follow....... we''ll wait and see.
Ake to Man City, Wilson & Frazer to Newcastle arguably monetary good returns, but not great for the first team, you could add Ibe, Boruc & Arter to that list too.
But players you’d expect to lose is my point. Like every team that goes down, the three or four best ones end up leaving to go back to the Prem.
