Been watching a few videos of their old games on youtube recently. It would be nice to see them get back into the league.
They still live off a cup semi-final in the fifties or just missing promotion to the first division. It doesn't take long for them to start harping on about how they beat Man Utd in the League cup too.
You can’t blame them for hanging on to what little success they’ve had in their history. They’re a small club and probably always will be, unless this shiny new ground turns them into the new Wigan! I always remember the 1974/75 season when they reached the Second Division for the first time and the joy they must have felt knowing that Manchester United would be playing in that league as well having just slipped out of the First Division. My first posting out of RAF training was Linton on Ouse so I’ve always had a lot of affection for the city and it’s football club. Bootham Crescent was a proper little football ground and I’m sorry that it’s gone the way of Saltergate, Belle Vue and the rest.
Correct. I always enjoyed a visit to Bootham Crescent, especially as we usually won there! But you're right. It's probably a case of ultra nostalgia on my part, but I miss some of the older grounds of yesteryear, in particular when they're replaced by soulless stadia.
I thought Belle Vue would have been a decent ground had they gone with the existing terracing behind the goals and along the side of the pitch instead of bulldozing it and fencing it off and leaving the debris behind for all to see.
How cool a penalty was that! Keith Houchen achieved even greater glory with that FA Cup Final diving header to win the cup for Coventry City.
