Morning all. At the weekend, after a bottle of wine, myself and my partner decided on doing a sponsored walk for the Alzheimer's society. She has a history of dementia in her family, and I've just started a new job in a dementia care home, so it's something we've both seen the effects of. We've decided to walk from our house in Crookes, to Derwent Reservoir, and back again, approx 24 miles on the 20th March. I've asked if we can set off early, so to be back for the Wednesday match I appreciate that money is tight at present, and I've only ever met a handful of you in person before, however any little you could spare would be greatly appreciated. Thank you: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/archigan
Well done Bud. I will of course insist on getting the money back should you or Mrs Archey fail; you don't get back in time for the Wednesday game; or we lose!
Haha. Ironically we missed the Wednesday game away, that's the only one I've missed the full 90 of this season (in the league), so maybe it's a good omen if I do miss it.
The dilemma is do you walk back along Rivelin Valley and have a really steep climb back to Crookes after 23 miles, or straight up the A57, which is a longer climb. Both are going to be taxing after so far... Good luck
The plan is to stick to the A57 I think. I've left Sarah to plan the route as, being from Glossop originally, it's a road she's driven along many times.
Update: We went for our first proper practice walk yesterday. We set off on the route we're going to do on 30th March and turned around at 7km, so we did just over 14km in total. Surprisingly, I feel fine and with a few more practice walks, I reckon we'll be ready for 20th March Again, thank you all for your support, between us we've raised just over £400 so far, with the promise of more after pay day. I'm absolutely staggered by people's generosity at a difficult time for us all.
