We're in best position we've been in Championship since January 17. We've kept the crown jewels and not got many big boys left to play.
Did you not predict that we would this years Hull city Stephen ? Not that there is anything wrong with what you think , just curious to know why you think that , I asked you when you made that statement, but you never replied.
Has anyone actually said "...we will be this season's Hull City?" I know I've personally said(only semi-seriously) that no matter how well we have been doing, I can't help but constantly check the gap to the bottom 3 rather than that to th play-off spots. That's just a force of habit though. I've also said that I was worried that the big FA cup tie agains Chelsea could have a similar effect as when we got to the semi-final, and our form totally went titts up in the run up to it. I don't think many would seriously belive we would completely drop like a stone though...
5 more wins would give us 54 points, and I'd be incredibly surprised if we went down on that. Also, there's 16 games left to get those points, and only 3 are against the top 6. Top half should be our aim from here, with the outside chance of a playoff push if we get a good run of results. We're doing fantastically well considering the crap start we had.
The daftest thing was that no one expected us to win many of the games, yet they were still reaching for the knife draw!
It's all over Tykes Mad that we were dropping like a stone and we are the next Hull but there's 1 or 2 that actually are against whatever the club does and add on at the end of every post with "there's sumat not right down there".
We have spent so many years fighting relegation whilst in the second tier, I think it's difficult for some fans(myself included) to change our mindset from counting the gap to the bottom three to looking up the table instead. Then the fact that there is almost always a team who's form tanks and gets dragged into a relegation dogfight(and for balance, a dark horse who make a late push for the top 6), which has been us on a few occasions, you can't blame them/us for being cautious. I must be honest though, I really think we've got the neucleus of something special here, and even I feel we are at the very least safe from the drop. I don't think we will be that "dark horse" I mentioned earlier though, simply because I'm woried that fatigue may start to kick in when we get to the business end of the season.
I hope you're right, mate! I'd love to see this group of playersin the Play-Off final, pressing the **** out of the oposition on the Wembly turf...
Had a look this morning, Val's current league PPG is 1.66. Carry that on, and rounded down we'll finish on 65 points. That would have been 10th for 4 of the last 5 seasons (12th in 17/18). Playoffs have been 74, 80, 75, 74 & 74. I make that we'd need 36 more points to make the playoffs in an average year - that's a big ask from 16 games. Val's PPG of 1.66 over a season would be 76 though. The future's bright!
Dont think it was you mate. Think it was written on a twitter feed perhaps a week or two ago but i have definitely read it somewhere by one or two. We havent sold our best players in January plus we have had a tough run of games since the turn of the year. Both league and cup.
