Pleased for Leach, he has come back well in this test after an early hammering. Controlled the 2nd part of his first innings stint and makes the breakthrough 2nd up .......... nice work.
Don't think he was doing a lot wrong when he was getting taken for a few really. Sometimes that's just the way it goes especially for spinners. As you say he's bowled well.
Very true, but it can go two ways for a spinner: 1) They accept it is part of their art and crack on regardless (Rashid is good at that) 2) They seem bewildered by it and let it affect their game the rest of the match (Panesar?) Thankfully Leach seems to be in the former camp.
I think the stats make him look worse than he was. He was getting hit big and almost got Pant caught out a few times, it just didn’t drop. He bowled a lot better than the 10 runs an over he was going for at one point.
https://twitter.com/ShaneWarne Warney having some debates with Piers Morgan and Michael Vaughan about how long we batted for. We should have got India in sooner but we should still win, even though all three results are still realistic.
Joe Root's test batting stats for the current calendar year. 3 matches 6 innings 684 runs 114 average 2 double centuries 1 century And of 2 of the 3 innings he was out for under a century He was run out by a team mate He was out lbw to a very good delivery on a deteriorating pitch.
I think in India you make sure you aren't going to lose first and foremost. I'd take 0-0 if offered as long as our batsman got a few centuries and built up some confidence for the Ashes.
Also i hope this makes people feel more chilled. The highest ever 4th innings score to win a test match is 418. By the West Indies vs Australia in 2003.
I don't think there's a great deal of concern about losing. Just whether we've made a mess of a great chance of winning.
I don't really know what the thinking was when Bess came in to bat. Cook tried to explain a theory when he was summarising, but he didn't seem convincing. Even an extra 4 or 5 overs would've given time for each of Anderson / Archer / Bess / Leach to have a meaningful spell of bowling. Bess and Anderson only had 2 overs each, and Bess looked like causing problems.
