Can't blame him really. Fast inswinging yorker to somebody that had been out there all day.

Looked like a full toss straight onto his pad in front of wicket. Like you say, waste of a review

Waste of a referral and he had gone too defensive to see out the day. Still a wonderful innings though and whilst the media will be all about Root we shouldn't forget the huge contribution Sibley made.

There's sumat about Sibley I'm not sure about. He gets bogged down in his crease. I know he's a slow scorer but he needs to work on milking the strike and attacking strokes.

Tiredness did for him in the end, plus the unlucky 87 not out score (13 from a 100). The Australians are very superstitious about that.

Ah well, time to get out and enjoy some fresh air

No I'm not blaming him. As you say been out there all day, just annoying it was the final.over of the day when he was so close to his century. Bit like letting that last minute equaliser in when you'd worked so hard defensively.

Root (8377 runs) now only 86 runs behind Alec Stewart (8463 runs) in the all time list of England test run scorers.

    Then Gooch on 8900.

And Alistair Cook the all time England run scorer on 12472.

Root's going to blitz all those, just a matter of time now. He'll become England's best Test batsmen, no doubt in my mind after seeing him today. Really focussed and not going to give his wicket away easily. It's going to be close whether he can get to Tendulkar's record of 15921 runs to become the all time Test record holder, but I think he can do as well.

    Go Joe Root :)

Only caught the final session but we scored at a very good run rate.

The Indians looked tired and lacking any plan of taking wickets.

Hope Root goes on and on and on and is well supported by the likes of Stokes Pope Buttler and Bess in the middle.

    400+ please

Great day’s cricket. Gutted for Sibley but it was a great innings, I know it was a full toss but it looked like it swung in on him. Class bowlers like Bumrah keep going til the end.

Root is just on a different level altogether. Get through that first session tomorrow then we can plough on through the afternoon. It’s crazy to think in his 5 knocks this year, he’s only been properly got out once discounting the 2 run outs and caught on the boundary because he’d run out of partners.

The difference between Root and Tendulkar is that Tendulkar had a 23 year test career starting at the age of 16!!!! until he was 39.

Roots first test was in December 2012.

    He is now 30.

Even if he gets anywhere close to Tendulkars numbers it will still be some achievement.

Tendulkar also got the massive benefit of the Indian curators producing flat wickets to let him plunder crap bowling attacks. Root bats in England half the time which has been so difficult these last few years.

He could bat in a ploughed field with a stick of Rhubarb.

I saw Tendulkar play in one of the first limited overs floodlit cricket matches in England at Don Valley. I think he was 17 or 18 at the time.

    Even then he oozed quality
