As we go into February, we're in the top half of the table, just 6 points from the Play Offs, 13 points away from the relegation places, into the last 16 of the FA Cup where we play Champion's League opposition at home. For me, we're making progress both as a club and a team. It may not be at the pace some want, but it's definite progress. We've all seen the club in much worse situations than present.
My view is we live in different times. When good old pro’s had to drop down the leagues. To continue to earn a living and top up their pensions and savings. Many a player then having to work outside the game. There are that many now who don’t require/need a final payday. And can live a life that older pro’s can only dream about. Hence some of those players today see it as a means of getting out of the house so to speak and give little effort. Because they are not reliant on future earnings. Some finishing playing well before their time. Reluctant to drop down the leagues as it may appear a stain on their career. How many Alan Clarke’s. Norman Hunters etc do you get nowadays. That would drop to league 2 to play. Very few, I would imagine.
I get on a real subconscious downer when results on the pitch aren't what I'd like. It's as if I lose reason. That translates to my general mood I look forward to the game that much that when we don't win it's like a massive kick in ball ax. It's worse if they don't play well or throw it away. When it comes to transfers the negativity comes from the thought that these players going out on loan won't be sold and the club will take a hit on them.
Plenty thought/think otherwise though SD. I’m Pretty sure they’ll divert their attention elsewhere. to slag the board off. ( ownership of the ground. Broken promises out of their hands due to Covid etc) Our handling during this crisis appears better than most.
Could this be our least successful transfer window ever which ironically would be slightly more successful than the famous most successful transfer window ever. Hope that makes sense. If it does you're as puddled as me. Thanks.
