Given the solid evidence that surely even the most ignorant have now absorbed about the age distribution of those who die from cv-19, we should ask what is the purpose of this anecdotal article? It’s not just reporting the news, as the news would be “covid 19 still tragically killing the elderly disproportionately”.. so what is this?
Medical professionals say one thing the epidemiologists of our message board another then waffle on about ‘fear porn’. Now who to believe?
The truth? If you are young and healthy you could die of Covid. You could also win the lottery, anything can happen but the likelihood of some things is very low. Presenting it as otherwise is disingenuous.
Just like you said I am going to kill granny. Or whichever fancy power of three slogans you fancy repeating this week. That entire article in the OP is disingenuous clickbait. Its all anecdotal, theres no stats that back it up. But itll get viewed a lot more than an article entitled octogenarians in care homes die. As harsh as it sounds people are more accustomed to older people dying but when it gets to younger people its a different matter so this article will induce a totally different reaction. And if they could get away with it they would they would lock you up. It was discussed in England as well. Limiting you to leaving the house once a week. Remember, even now technically you are under house arrest. Its illegal to leave your property unless you have a reasonable excuse. Still could be worse. I could have stated as fact thousands of kids are dying every day.
I'm not saying the original article is worth a wnk. Just that you can't bang on about Fear Porn (which is quite a good term tbf) when you said that those living in Wales aren't allowed 100 yards away from their house.
and your medical qualifications that give you the confidence to state that medical staff are somehow incorrect or lying? That’s without looking at the impact of long Covid. We promote road safety and taking precautions when driving. The chances of getting killed in a crash are fairly slim doesnt mean it’s disingenuous to tell you what can happen without appropriate precautions.
Are you telling me that you believe the government figures, the ONS figures and the NHS figures which show that the vast majority of deaths are the elderly and vulnerable people are incorrect?
No I’m telling you that your granny gulag idea wouldn’t work as it’s perfectly possible to get CV19 whatever age you are and be seriously ill and die. Looking at the age demographic. As above you are unlikely to die as a result of a road accident doesn’t mean that it’s incorrect to warn you or that you shouldn’t take appropriate precautions. Would you think it fine to speed without wearing a seatbelt as you were unlikely to die as a result? as for vulnerable or pre existing a bout of mental illness qualifies you for that.
Nobody mentioned granny gulag, stop taking things out of context and putting words in people's mouths. Nobody mentioned taking no precautions at all either. And why the comment about mental illness?
On the other, side right or wrong it's hard to hear the pressure this Woman is under and not be moved.
I noticed she said that she was using her alcohol licence to trade so thought I'd look to see just what the rules are. Would a clothing shop that happens to sell bread be allowed to open? What I found on the government website was really interesting "Where a business has sufficiently distinct parts, and one section provides essential retail and one section provides non-essential retail, the non-essential sections should close to limit interactions between customers and the opportunity for the virus to spread. Sufficiently distinct sections might involve operating in separate buildings, across separate floors, a door between sections, using separate cashiers, or another clear demarcation between sections. For example a food shop may stay open, but a homeware section on a separate floor or separate building should close" With that in mind it does make me wonder why when I went in Tesco the other week their upstairs, seperate clothing and electronics section was open and trading. Businesses required to close: homeware stores So how is Wilko open and breaking the law every day?
Mehta precisely did you mean by disingenuous we both know that’s a posh word for lying or deliberately misleading.
You definitely did advocating locking frail and elderly people up in what would amount to a prison. So it makes sense then to highlight that it is a disease that can impact anyone at anytime. Mental health as an underlying condition I mentioned because a relative who died as a result of CV pneumonia would qualify as being ‘at risk’ because they had received some treatment for a mental health issue.
