    Well I wouldn't know if our population in generally older or more obese than other nations so couldn't make that comparison. I suppose it's hard a politician to admit that obesity is such a big issue as when you are trying to get people to vote for you it's not great to call them fat, even if they are.

    NZ have a slightly more obese but marginally younger population.

    it’s a dead cat! But then our overlords have specialised in this now since 2010 and the population are still falling for it.

    Not really a basis for comparisons on the higher risk obesity causes with Covid though. As I understand it (genuinely correct me if I'm wrong) New Zealand have managed to keep Covid levels down by basically shutting the borders for the last 9 months and have in essence kept the virus out.
    Again I'll hold my hands up here I have no idea if it was practically possible for us to do the same with regard our borders or not. But given that we didn't maybe some of the many obese folk I see out and about in masks should consider losing some weight, for many it would probably have much greater health benefits and protect more from Covid than wearing a mask.
    Just saying things like that seems to really anger some people and i don't get why.

    our age demographic and weight demographic are better than America but our results are worse. It’s just really a sideshow isn’t it? If you are from BAME community you are more likely to get Covid so any country with a large BAME community could say their risk factors outflank ours but they have better outcomes.

    Absolutely this. An obvious tactic from the govt to shift blame from them to the public. Unfortunately some people will fall for it.

    Everything out government does is a shambles.
    To be clear I get that here we have a government minister trying to cover their own ineptitude by shifting blame onto the old and obese nature of our population. I'm not defending that and I never was.
    All I said was that on a personal level being obese is a massive risk. We should be more than ever encouraging people to lose weight. So for example its rather ironic government have **** gyms and kept takeaways open.

    That's what all government tactics are at the minute. Just like the horrible "look into his/her eyes" campaign.
    I just think on a personal level if anyone think people not following social distancing is irresponsible then surely you have to think the same of obese people not trying to lose weight.

    I go to the gym on a regular basis & I find it very difficult to lose weight, I've cut way back on my alcohol intake & eat healthily. You make that statement of people not trying, some folk may not, do you think all fat folk don't try?
