My partner's daughter lives near Selby and always brings me a pork pie from the local butchers when she visits, lovely.

When I go back up I bring back a stash of stuff from the market. Barnsley chops, steak, fish, pies, and of course black pudding and dripping. I used to tell folk in my local about how good the chops were. They didn’t believe me so I gave so a couple a ‘trial’ chop…. Now I don’t mention I’m going to Barnsley as the volume of orders got out of hand.

I remember first coming down south and coming across Watney's Red Barrel. Unforgettable. For all the wrong reasons.

The best chips I've ever had down south was in Hastings - Neptune Fish&Chips. Owned by Chinese. Well it used to be.

Fish and chips look yellower down south. Might just be me but they don't seem to cook the chips and batter as long.

You don't have to go south for yellow fish and chips. Some of the yellowest, and worst, I've had have been in Scarborough, until I discovered Winking Willy's.

I think the question was in relation to the use of a sparkler on cask ale darn sarf. Or lack of.

There's no difference in the evolution of beer up north or down south other than the price points.

Didn't used to have proper Winters on the South coast. Missed the sound of scraping shovels as you cleared the path along with chapped hands and hot aches when you got back in.

Nobody said there was. Some fantastic brewers across the UK. Literally just received orders from Mad Squirrel, Fierce and BBNO. Have to support the small brewers doing a great job in difficult times.

And remember the icicles? About three foot long and you could them use as swords.

Yep. I've bought significant volumes of beer from all three of those you've mentioned over the years and given them some great platforms to grow. Got to support all breweries leading the good fight at the minute.

I fear for some of the smaller places that resell beer for takeaway or have small sit in areas. The beershop in Nunhead is a fantastic little place, but aside from a short period of being open and the initial flogging off of their old stock, they've not been open. Likewise places like Mother Kellys which I'm not sure has opened at all. Would be a huge loss to see those places not make it either.

Edit... by the way... did you ever make it to the BBNO tap room? They had a spell of about a year from first opening where they were evolving really well and had some fantastic tap takeovers. But then the 2 who mainly ran the taproom both vanished and first the soul went, and then the beer innovations went down hill with less collabs. Huge shame as the formula was right. Hopefully its just a blip and their last crowdsourcing cap raise gets them back on track when the time is right.
