He shouldn’t have taken money from Friends of Israel ( aka Israeli government) or a certain hedge fund manager ( Jarvis is backed by the same mob) Its basically destroyed any chance he had of uniting Labour members . Why he appointed Ashworth as Health spokesman when the guy openly campaigned against the party in the election and is as incompetent as Handcock , is anybody’s guess . Starmer has hardly mentioned Tory financial mismanagement at the despatch box when it should be the first thing he brings up every week , and if he says ‘I’m supporting the Government’ one more time I’m going to put my foot through the TV

It's a book that, much like the political discourse in general these days, people will interpret things in a way which suits their own preconceptions (and I'd certainly include myself within this comment, as it confirmed and re-inforced many things I'd previously suspected were the case).

The fact that it enables people to do so is a reflection of the quality of the writing and the journalistic research that went into it. It doesn't approach things with a pre-determined viewpoint, and documents events in an even-handed way. The fact that they have sources ranging from, say, Peter Mandelson to Karie Murphy is indicative of what they were trying to achieve when writing it. I found myself absorbed in reading it in the same way that I would a really good novel, which is quite an achievement for a political non-fiction book.

I had a recollection of mentioning it somewhere in a post at the time I first read it, and I've just found the post in question. Somehow I'm quite impressed that I've managed to replicate a lot of the original sentiment including a reference to people "in the room" almost 4 months further down the line.

    Interesting.

I'm not sure why you are so against Ashworth. He has grown in my estimation during the pandemic. Interesting that he was appointed to the health brief under Corbyn and has continued under Sir Keir.

That was one of Corbyns problems he appointed people in good faith believing they would ultimately have the party’s overall interests at heart even if they didn’t like him personally particularly during an election, Ashworth is as bad as any Tory snake

Ashworth was a bizarre appointment especially when his wife who works in the Labour HQ appears in the Labour Leaks numerous times abusing Diane Abbott & been upset that Theresa May didn’t win a majority.

Theresa May with a bare majority would have actually been a better outcome for Labour than Boris for five years with 80 seats.

We celebrated voting down her deal with the EU, wrongly of course with hindsight. Outflank the ERG, vote with May, get a soft brexit. thats all for another discussion however and no doubt it would have meant another 20 years of Farage, idiocy and Labour would have been ruined. At least with Johnson in charge now it finally draws a line under it and forces a re set.

I was at Leeds Uni with Starmer. Different course. I didn't vote for him as party leader but I'm staying in the party to show him as much loyalty as he did Jeremy Corbyn, a man this country needed. Barnsley MP Dan Jarvis also took money from Trevor Chinn a who is a noted Zionist. I wonder where Chinn sourced the money? It wasn't Palestine.

She had conceded maintaining EU employment standards in her deal. Corbyn would still have led Labour against her - not Johnson. But I think you're right. A line needs to be drawn. Johnson was even trying to paint Starmer as seeking to overturn brexit today until Speaker Hoyle stopped him short. I'm hoping for straight bat from SKS from now until 2024. When we get in sight of the winning total he can hit out.
