Expedia treated me the same after a disastrous stay in Ostende. When I first complained they give themselves 30 days to investigate before replying. I was impatient and approached them again after 10 days. What I didn't know is that then triggered another count down period of 30 days for them to carry out their checks. They did that to me four times. In desperation, I paid a fee to receive legal advice from Which magazines legal experts. Basically a top barrister called me and outlined my rights and identified the precise Act of Parliament I could claim under. He then advised me to register my case with the small claims Court in Wakefield. I did as I was advised and 48 hours before the case was due to be heard, Expedia contacted me and offered me a full refund of the cost of our stay plus £100 for messing me about. Goes without saying I accepted.
Some adverts on TV are also totally misleading. There's just been one for British Gas which infers that if you take a policy out for your Central heating boiler and system all of your costs for parts and Labour are fully covered. They are if you opt to pay a premium for that type of cover, which is considerably higher than some of their competitors. Sign up for one of the lower priced services re- just the Boiler and hidden in the small print there was an excess of £100 everytime you had to call them out. They got me once, after which I switched to CORGI. My four year old Worcester Bosch Greenstar boiler packed in last Christmas Eve. Turned out the manifold was leaking and it was not possible for CORGI to get the parts until the 28th at the earliest. There was a £50 excess on the policy which they waived and they authorised a voucher for £50 for us to go to Dunelm to buy two electric fan heaters which we could keep. They then gave us the balance to cover the cost of the electricity the heaters used. True to their word, their engineer was at our house on the 28th and inside a couple of hours, he had our system up and running.
