Earlier in this thread, contributors were saying that we played as we always play. I know how we always play and I was commenting upon that.
Still might be worth a tenner, just to have your own opinion. I prefer my own opinion, even though it might not be popular.
Lots of good points in this thread, a lot with similar observations, if we can see the improvements needed,I presume the football staff can too. My view is that we need 2 forward players who are quick and creative and a specialist left back. The team is slightly unbalanced at the moment and has been mentioned, lose possession easily. Just think how good the team would be if Jacob Brown and Keiffer Moore were playing alongside Cauley up front,in this system. You see how the team needs to be strengthened and how more successful, potentially we might be. Just a thought but remember I know nothing about football.
That's the difference between you and me. You know nothing about football. Whereas I think I do. It's a sad state of affairs.
You only have to look at the top six sides at the minute and especially at there attacking players and you can see why we fall short in some games now that’s not a criticism of us but just a fact of championship life and why if we can finish around the top ten it will be a great achievement
It’s surely far too early to come to a judgement about Kane and I think he’s got the makings of a quality player. He’s not there at the moment though so getting James re-signed is absolutely critical for me, particularly with Mowatt on his way out. Was it James’ last game today?
I've been saying it for months: If we'd got Brown and Moore alongside Woodrow playing this system with these tactics, we'd be almost unstoppable. And as we're both living in dreamland, let's add Darren Barnard on the left.
Yes I thought Norwich were better, we played better today than we did against Bournemouth. Norwich goal was outstanding, we gifted Bournemouth most of theirs. Both good sides tho but they should be having been in the Premiership with the players and money that brings.
How do you know Mowatt is on his way out? I've heard nothing to suggest it, apart from the circumstances. Obviously it's going to be resolved one way or the other soon. Bear in mind how Covid-19 has reduced a lot of teams' financial clout, that could easily be in our favour.
I thought it was very similar to the Bournemouth game but Norwich weren’t as clinical. I think we were lucky Pukki, Cantwell, Skipp & the other Norwich attackers had a bit of an off day. Pukki’s pace surprised me, I never realised just how quick he was. Clever player, I can see why he’s scored for fun. We are what we are. Well organised side that grinds results out against weaker teams & teams having an off day but more often than not gets beat against quality. I don’t see the argument that we deserved a point yesterday. They should have finished us off on the numerous counter attacks they had. Definitely agree with Jay that it’s the wide forwards that stop us from been a quality side
I think we’re turning into a 45 minute team. We played well first half against Bournemouth, Rotherham and Norwich. The games coming thick and fast combined with our style of play adds up to physical and mental fatigue. We lose focus in the second half and that’s why our passing goes awry. If we weren’t asking so much of the players, I’m sure we’d be seeing better performances.
can not see why we do not just feed Brittain as much as possible, like the old Notts Forest used to do with John Robertson, it might be obvious but if obvious works why not, amount of time Brittain had his hands up more times wanting ball and it never got there
Agree with this i think we're punching in the league position were in with the players we have on paper. I expect us to finish around mid table depending on the january window. We alway struggle against the top sides in this league to change that we would have to spend a few quid.
I get the feeling that VI wants to use as many of his subs as possible for exactly that reason, but maybe he doesn't quite have the quality on the bench that he wants. A couple of good signings and I could see him rolling the dice and subbing three or four players at once more often, just to keep up the energy levels which are so important to this style of play. It really feels like being able to field what would effectively be a 16-player first team would suit us very well, especially in such a congested season. Whether we can afford that is a different matter!
