Is for the board to start to believe and show faith by backing the manager in January with the couple of signings he wants and learning to say no to the vultures when they start to circle around our players and maybe just maybe something special may happen to Barnsley FC.

To be fair, the board have backed every other manager they've had. We've not always got the right players in, but they've certainly made the money available in the past. Nothing to suggest they won't this window either, particularly as we're rumoured to be close to signing 2 players.

I thought I might be misremembering. I've had a look back over the last few windows, and we've paid a fee for the majority of the players we've signed in the last couple of years. We've extended the contracts of several key players, including Styles and Woodrow in the last window. We've lost a few key players, granted, however, in the last 2 windows, only Jacob Brown is a notable departure. I fail to see how that isn't evidence of the board backing their manager. I get that we're in need of another striker, we have signed at least 1 in 4 of the last 5 windows, but some players just don't work out.

I do believe they'll sell one of the crown jewels.

This isn't a 'the vvankers, they always cash in' sort of post.

There's presumably not a lot of money coming into the club, and it's always been apparent they aren't going to put their own in. If they can generate some funds by selling whoever it is, it makes sense to do so.

Sorry to píss on people's chips, like.

“We’ve lost a few key players.” Quite!
There must be over 500 threads on the subject of the Club’s owners, so I’ll not repeat the arguments here and bore everyone to death again.

I hope to God it’s true that they have learned from the past as they claim. But until there’s some actual evidence of that, as opposed to a shed load of evidence to the contrary, I’m still in the sceptical camp.

I’ll make this point when we’re winning games rather than just screaming when someone dares to beat us.

Every club is a selling club. I honestly think we'll keep hold of everyone, barring maybe Mowatt. But as you say, it's often necessary to offload someone before we can bring someone else in. I just hope we can get a surprisingly good few for someone like Ritzmaier.

As I say, I reckon there's plenty of evidence from the last year to say there's a vast improvement on the transfer front. But aye, we'll not get into it now.

Didn’t back us in the relegation scrap in Jan 18 short after the takeover they sold club captain to a relegation rival and brought in a few freebies one of which looked like a pub player (centre half from Notts Forrest) no outlay from their pockets.

Didn’t back Stendel when we got promoted sold the core of his team offering little replacement for those sold yet again no outlay from their pocket.

Like you said every other manager.

Up to scratch they’ve not had to invest any of their own money for transfers just recycle the money received to replace players. Nothing leads me to believe they will break this policy.

We got money at the start of the season for the sale of Brown and Struber some of which we spent. So cant imagine a lot of money been available as surely the rest of the money needs to be saved to offset the reduced income (covid) for the cost of running the club.

I’d imagine nothing more than a million on 3/4 players at a guess unless we can shift some dead weight.

To be fair, we brought Moore and McBurnie in, in that window, who almost kept us up. But I take your point.

The mass turnover of players last summer for me is their biggest failure to date. The sale of Lindsay, Pinnock and Moore in one window (as well as the loss of Davies) was shambolic, considering their replacements were incredibly inexperienced. I think a lot of issues in the past however, we're caused by the offering of 2 year contracts under Patrick Cryne. We've moved away from that now, meaning we can command much higher fees for players.

Your point about them not having to put their money into transfers. They shouldn't need to. Part of the reason they were sold the club in the first place, was because of their promise to keep the club self sufficient. It's what keeps us apart from teams like Wednesday and Derby.

The acquisition of Sollbauer changed everything.

They had realised that you can't thrive in the Championship with a team of kids, and fair play to them.

I don't love these owners. They have made a lot of mistakes: 21-word statements, what can seem to be a naive, or, (depending on your interpretation) vindictive weakening of the team, a lack of communication with the fans, except when they want us to cough up.

So credit to them when they show evidence of having learnt from some of those mistakes. In terms of league position, this is the best team we have had since Bassett, and they've hardly blown a lottery win to get us into nosebleed territory.

I think we’re a couple of quality players in the final third off having a really good side but it’d probably take millions to get them or a huge amount of luck.

As it is we’re a well organised battling side that lose against the better sides & grind wins out against the weaker sides. I don’t think we’re play off contenders or anything much more than hopefully sneaking into the top half.

I think we’re an injury or two or a bit of luck going the other way off a run of defeats but I’m enjoying these wins while we get them & it’s nice not to be in a relegation battle.

Completely understand they shouldn’t have to put their hand in their pocket but I was stating that this window the funds are going to be limited unless we sell to reinvest which defeats the object of trying to strengthen.

    You’ve completely missed the point.

I was clearly stating the windows in which we didn’t strengthen when given the opportunity and it cost us.

In my opinion I can’t see us spending a lot in this window to strengthen as we dont have the funds to do so. The money raised at the start of this season will be used for the running costs of the club as revenues will be down.

I don't think it means we can't strengthen. It's all about getting the right replacement I suppose.

Why don't big Val play Michal Helik up top with Woodrow when Aapo Halme is fit, just a thought.
