Amazing to think that the FA once saw fit to ban women from playing, once the men got back from war. If you don’t know what happened, reading up about the Dick Kerr Ladies in highly recommended. https://www.dickkerrladies.com/the-fa-ban
Honestly, no skeletons in that rotten organisation's history would surprise me. Only made to look remotely virtuous in comparison to FIFA. The FA are now happy for women to play football, if it makes enough money for them.
Who did the ironing while those eleven were playing? Disgrace. And eleven hungry blokes went without their dinners. Tell you what, there's a few in that photo I wouldn't mess with.
More here for those, like me, who are intrigued by the comma between "Dick" and "Kerr." https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick,_Kerr_Ladies_F.C.
Had to be done, kick off probably clashed with when they needed ‘t’ get their men’s dinner ont table!
I've got this book about them on my shelf after it came recommended by a friend, but haven't got round to getting into it yet. I'm told it's a good read! https://www.bookdepository.com/Leag...225638?ref=grid-view&qid=1608724677611&sr=1-3
Thanks for that, something I'd never heard about. I wasn't aware that women's football had been banned in the UK, but knowing what I do about the history of this country, I'm not in the slightest surprised. Glad to see women's football finally making something of a comeback.
