Discussion on the danger of back flip celebrations. The one I hate is players sliding on their knees, surely that is just knackering their knees for the future?. Love being on the first page of the table!
I hate seeing them do those stupid slides as well. Apart from potential damage to themselves they make unnecessary tramline marks on the pitch as well. I bet the groundsmen love that (not)! Will be nice to stay on that first page all season won’t it
Coincidentally theres an interview in the PNE programme with the Head Groundsman and wouldn't you know it his pet hate is...knee slides! With a special mention for Bambo's against QPR which took weeks to sort out.
Peter Crouch talks about it in his autobiography, discussing getting the evils from the groundsmen afterwards haha
Agreed, it’s a cliche now. Have to laugh when there isn’t enough moisture on the pitch and the player goes headfirst into the turf. You’re a pro footballer - your work tools are your legs. Look after them!
Seems to me that too many footballers like to strike the pose, and sometimes it’s dangerous. Not quite wired up properly most of them
God help us when Rooney Junior is playing first team football. Made BBC sports news headlines this lunchtime, signing his first contract with Man Utd, at age 11. Sky must be drooling already.
I never went in for extravagant celebrations. I was more embarrassed about my superior skills. Plus I didn’t want a bollocking off my Mam for getting my kit too mucky..
I remember my first goal. Keeper kept tapping me on shoulder n' saying he was having me on a butty. Everytime I went near him he tried to bite me. I went out to wing through a bit of intimidation. Anyway in last minute ball was played out to right from Barthez (Gaz). I chased it down line trapped it, pulled it back, squared it to Barnsey. He took it into box and I drifted in field. He hit it straight at their keeper and I side footed in the rebound. I ran into the goal picked up the ball and ran back past the keep and shouted, " eat that you fat *******". We were 6-0 up.
Years ago youngest girl wanted to play football, so I started taking her to the under 7s on Sunday morning. She was so distraught when she got her kit dirty she would literally be crying when she came off the pitch! What's up I'd say.... (In between the tears) I've got my shorts dirty.... Mummy's not going to be happy...... I'll tell her you had a good game and that she should be proud of you....lol She never took to it and wanted to pack it in after a few weeks
Agreed on this. I wouldn't be happy as a club paying them thousands a week if they get hurt doing that. I've seen one or two of those attempted slides go wrong. Just a fist pump and a few handshakes and preserve your energy for the game!
