https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-nottinghamshire-55192902 who makes up the rules?, but best thing one of the spokespeople is called Robin Wood,
And why not? It is essentially retail, all the food outlets are take away only, no alcohol on sale. Why should it be banned but meadowhall be open?
Never thought of that,In a way Robin Wood is taking from the rich Meadowhall places and giving to the poor traders, good one Robin Wood
Not that long ago the Council Leader for Nottingham was on BBC Breakfast literally begging the Government to put them into Tier 3.
Could mean anything in reality, don't be applying logic to the situation. We have MPs sat in the commons, indoors mask free and football fans outdoors masked up. Councils as I understand it were probably pushing for tier 3 in search of more financial support. Why is the only difference between tier 3 and lockdown certain shops having to close. Just seems mad doesn't it.
From memory not got a clue. Equally not sure what your obsession with retail has anything to do with what I posted? I posted about the Councils attitude not that long ago, nothing more or less.
Well their attitude of wanting to get more financial support by entering tier 3 doesn't mean they were against allowing retail to open and the Christmas market is retail
But that’s the whole point isn’t it? The fact that when it suited the council wanted to shut down as much as possible and control etc but when it suited they have encouraged mass groups uncontrolled to gather. Even though it is classed as retail the Council still had to give permission for it to happen. For comparison the Lincoln Xmas market which is one of the largest in Europe and significantly substantial to the economy, Lincoln Council took the decision months ago to not allow it to happen, this was despite the fact at the time COVID was almost non existent in Lincoln.
Trouble is they abuse it and although I am just over the border in Nottinghamshire with low rates I am classed with them in Tier 3 and will be for the foreseeable future. They lost control of the market.
If you look closely at that picture though you’ll see that all the shoppers on the photo have a Scotch egg tied around their necks - guaranteed immunity.
Looks like the clothes section of Tesco last week to be fair. And how many of those in the still photograph are their for the market and how many are there for the other shops in the run up to Christmas?
They didn't want to shut down retail. Where have you got it from that Nottingham wanted to close retail? And yes I know Lincoln closed early. It caused traders to lose their business. That's not speculation, it's fact. Traders who pinned their hopes on being able to trade in the run up to Christmas closed for good due to being informed early by Lincoln that it wouldn't happen.
Where are you getting that I said Nottingham wanted to close retail down?? ALL I have ever commented on is about the attitude of the Council. The council were quite happy to put more restrictions on the area a couple of months ago when it suited and now they are happy to relax the restrictions in fact encourage people to congregate in an uncontrolled manner. Which Xmas Market traders are you referring to lost their business? Not established businesses, people who only traded for one weekend a year at the market?
The restrictions are retail though you don't seem to grasp that. The market is retail. The council allowing the retail market to open is related to the council (the law) allowing the rest of retail to open. Yes they wanted the financial support and were prepared to sacrifice bars for it but that doesn't mean they ever wanted retail, which the market is, to close. That's why I keep mentioning retail because it is retail. You mentioning unrelated restrictions is like me saying I'm cold I want to buy a coat and you saying yeah but not long ago you said you didn't want a drink. And no they aren't one week a year businesses they're businesses that trade for approximately 9 months of the year who have been denied the opportunity to do so and were pinning their last hope not a successful Christmas market season. Do you really think that these stalls just appear for one weekend and that's it?
