Hopefully this is the start of a wave around the world. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...ation-to-provide-free-period-products-for-all
I hear the sanitary products are going to be yellow. It’ll be the nearest Scotland gets to sunny periods! (Al get mine anall)
I don't understand why this isn't already a thing. They were talking about VAT when Cameron was in charge - surely to god all of Europe should have done something to remove VAT at least.
It blows my mind that they aren’t provided in public places. Hardly any toilets at all sell them and even when they do they are charging £2-£3 for two tampons at a time. Places where you are sort of ‘trapped’ i.e. football grounds, theatres, arenas where you have bought a ticket and don’t want to have to leave or places where you physically can’t such as aeroplanes, that have toilets should be made to provide them, even at a cost (although it should be free like toilet paper). I remember getting my period once in a small airport late at night when the shops were closed and there was nowhere I could buy them from and I had a wait and a plane journey ahead. I initially tried using a load of toilet paper which is uncomfortable and disintegrates and then I worried that it wouldn’t last and I would leak so I resorted to going around asking strangers for something. I have never been as embarrassed in my entire life. Mine have never been regular so I got caught out quite often when younger and had to leave loads of places to find a shop to buy a big pack. You then have to head back to the toilets and you have nowhere to store the big pack it if you don’t have a large handbag but you don’t want to throw them or carry them around wherever you are advertising that you are on (imagine having to nip to shop and buy a pack of toilet roll and then carry it around in a plastic bag basically telling all your mates that you’ve just had a **** - it shouldn’t embarrass you but it does as a teenager or when with someone you’re not close with). I’ve been known to just leave them in the toilets hoping it will help someone else.
Tesco were handing them out this morning. All wrapped in tinsel. Apparently the tinsel is only for the Christmas period
Oi! Tonjy I’ll have you know it’s glorious sunshine here today. And this sunny weather is expected to last all week. In fact I can’t remember the last time it was dull and miserable here so take that back.
I seem to recall Thatcher arguing for VAT on these products when she was PM - her opinion was they were a luxury!
Feels like something from the bygone past expecting women to pay. A real welcome albeit overdue initiative
No doubt some people on this board will think that women should pay for products they need and shouldn't be nannied by the state.
Can they make me a couple of Chippendale chairs, mahogany cabinet and a Robert Adam fire surround. Who do I get in touch with.
