25 day lockdown versus no Christmas gatherings

    The price to pay isn't just a 25 day lockdown though is it. Allowing families to mix for 5 days will increase infections, hospital admissions and ultimately deaths. How many extra deaths do people consider an acceptable figure so that we can enjoy a 'normal' Christmas?

    My sentiments exactly, I get called miserable and Scrooge because of my moanings at the long build- up to Christmas, but when it arrives I enjoy it as much as the next person.

    It’s not surprising that more people are bothered about Christmas than other religious festivals when the vast majority of people in the country only celebrate Christmas.

    This is it now, this could well escalate into something the right-wing would truly relish (not saying that’s what you’re advocating by the way) It needs nipping in the bud.

    sure. but if Christmas is celebrated by the vast majority of people, isn't it also Christmas that poses a far bigger risk? fwiw I personally think people will just ignore any lockdown on Christmas Day, regardless of what the rules are. will be physically impossible to enforce any restrictions.

    if it were up to me I'd announce restrictions. just to watch Laurence Fox implode.

    I totally agree, the government know that the percentage of people who normally follow the rules will be tempted to bend and flout them over this period, and there is no way to monitor or wholly enforce it. This isn't about controlling the virus, its about saving face in the inevitable actions.
