You tend to find that mobile suppliers have slower pings, which is frustrating for gamers and those on video calls all day. I believe, but maybe wrong, you're also limited in bandwidth on these deals, where as most of the others tend to be "truly* unlimited". * The truly bit meaning its not traffic managed.
I'm not a gamer so that bit doesn't bother me, but I have heard rumours about bandwidth management. It's not a problem for me, it works adequately for what I need to do, but it may not be for everyone.
I’ve been with them and their predecessors 20 yrs (BB slightly less), the only time we’ve had throttling of service was when the kids used to illegally download (as per their Ts & Cs) In my experience the reason they don’t bamboozle with different stats is because we get exactly what we pay for. Currently on 200 mbps and whenever I test it’s about 205 and that’s been the story for all my time with them.
Thats because its all under virgins control and more importantly you have effectively a fibre connection. Fibre to premises with does give truly fast reliable speeds is being slowly rolled out by Openreach - but its not in my area. I could pay to get a dedicated fibre line installed but thats far beyond a sensible price and I dont need it. I would be happy with the 30M download I can get with FTC if the lines worked properly
I’m aware of the tech, I was responding to Tony as he said he’d been crippled on Virgin on an evening.
