    Except it's a 23 year old story which was wrong when it was initially published.

    This just came up on my phone hence posting it here.

    However, if my memory is correct ...

    1) Keith Lodge was the only journalist to do his research
    2) He found that a proper translation of what Georgie has actually said was something along the lines of him missing girls from his home country.

    Anyway, slow news day?

    It was a bit unfair on Hristov really. Lars Lees mentioned this story in his book. Apparently some Macedonian journalist (considering he was pretty high profile being a Premier League player) asked ‘What do you miss about home?’. He was just a young, homesick lad and replied ‘the beautiful women’.
    However, by the time the British press had got hold of this interview they translated it back to headline making English as ‘all Barnsley women are ugly pigs’.

    I went on a day trip Skopje to watch England play. Can't remember which of the fixtures it was or why we thought it was sufficiently important to go there and back in one, very long, day but the thing that stands out in my terrible memory about the trip now is thinking that I could see where Georgi Hristov was coming from with regards the beautiful women. There seemed to be so very many well dressed, stunning women.

    Went to an evening with Adi Moses, Nicky Eaden and John Hendrie just before the lockdown.

    Adi says he's always reminded of that goal at Elland Road, but nobody ever wants to talk about the volley he scored at home to Norwich the previous season.

    Given his poor English, I did wonder what he said to the assistant referee at Leeds to get sent off! I do hope that the lads hadn't been teaching him rude words!! How come he got sent off when de Canio managed to avoid same for a far worse rant at Hillsborough and then scored their winner. It still annoys me even now.

    I thought Hristov was a cracking centre forward. Could never understand why he didn't play during the 98/99 season. I don't think Bassett made much use of him either. That said his header straight at Richard Wright haunts me.

    I'd forgotten that's what had happened, but before I got to your reference to DeCanio I thought exactly the same. He called him blind with his gestures and didn't get booked. I'm with you, still angers me now.
