Interesting article recently in the Yorkshire Post in which it was opining that Jack Aitchison was the potential to be not only one of Barnsley's best signings of recent years but the answer to the current need for a centre forward. They thought it was perplexing that he should be sent straight out on loan to Stevenage. At the time we were signing him I asked my nephew, who is at Celtic, what he thought about him. He said "Jack is a great lad, good player, very professional with the right attitude and desperate to do well". It just seems odd that when we brought in Callum Styles in he went straight in to training with the first team, that's proved a success. What had we to lose by looking at Aitchison in training until January and then send him out on loan if he wasn't ready.
He hasn't done anything at Stevenage as yet and hasn't featured in past few games from what I can see- unsure if injured.
I counted at least four games between 10th and 24th Oct (Mansfield, Newport, Forest Green, Leyton Orient), playing 90 mins each time but no goals or assists. Doesn't appear to have played since.
Correct, I've checked a couple of other sites and he's got 4 appearances. Stevenage didn't score a goal in those 4 games.
Currently injured. Last match he played he was unable to continue and taken off. Stevenage had already used all subs
Could be that you can only have 25 in first team squad, so rather than have him assigned to U23 they thought he would develop quicker getting first team games?
I don't think there's a restriction on squad size in the Championship. Just the Premier League. I could be wrong though.
Brought in this year I think. From EFL page, Section 6. (a) in respect of Championship Clubs, 25 Players of which a minimum of 8 must be a Home Grown Player; https://www.efl.com/-more/governance/efl-rules--regulations/section-6---players/
https://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=91562 The four games he's played for them so far Stevenage haven't scored in them.
To be fair Stevenage are struggling badly in L2. The lad has probably had very little service to work with so it’s hard to judge him. Looks like it was a poor loan move for him. He got very good reviews when on loan at Forest Green last season.
