Only one day in and already the infection rate seems to have peaked

makes you wonder whether this is really necessary after all

It will be good PR for Boris as he saves Christmas.

I don't think that stat means we have already peaked, more like infections are still rising albeit not as quickly as before, but the chart is still heading up towards a peak.

That said, whether the lockdown in it's current guise is the answer is an entirely different debate. I just hope this mass testing in Liverpool goes better than it did in Salford previously, because I can't see test & trace ever being any use while it's run by Boris' mates.

No it means that the rate people are getting infections has peaked - of course people are still getting infected but the numbers getting infected are less than previously.
Of course it may be a temporary blip and they take off again and there is a big lag on hospital admissions and deaths so their rates will keep rising for a while yet

Fiddling the numbers I think to prove lockdown was the right decision. Can't get that good after 24 hours.

These are ONS numbers - I dont think the government has got round to "fixing" that yet so I expect they are fairly reliable.

I live on a main road, and if the traffic (from both vehicles and pedestrians) is anything to go by people aren't taking this anywhere near as seriously as they were in March. Purely anecdotal, but if you add in the schools remaining open then I really struggle to conclude that there will be any effect at all, let alone such a quick one.

All that seems to have changed from Yesterday is some shops have closed, hospitality has shut. Looks just as busy everywhere else.

    50000 is a really big number though. That’s 350k a week.

Tarn’s like a ghost town compared to what it has been before we went into Tier 3 and then lockdown

Am not sure about that. The first point on this is specifically about rate https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopula...iruscovid19infectionsurveypilot/6november2020

Fair enough I haven't been in ages to be honest. Local area seems to have as many people out and about aswell as local shops.

I think the recent tier system might be kicking in & having an effect, but I tend not to listen to political statements & just try to apply a common sense view, which of course could be completely wrong , lol
