The original and best. One of my all time favourite actors. May he rest in peace.

Rabid Scottish Nationalist - he just happened to live in Bermuda. Amazing how far good looks and limited talent can get you...not that I disliked him but he had a good long life and lots of fun along the way.

 

Didn't he say that he was ok with hitting women? I've never seen any of the Bond films he was in and he was almost 60 when I was born so I don't get all the take about him being attractive either.

Found the quote, it was from 1965 so maybe that nullifies it a bit? Still think he's a word I won't use to describe the dead though.

PLAYBOY: How do you feel about roughing up a woman, as Bond sometimes has to do?

CONNERY: I don’t think there is anything particularly wrong about hitting a woman – although I don’t recommend doing it in the same way that you’d hit a man. An openhanded slap is justified–if all other alternatives fail and there has been plenty of warning. If a woman is a bitch, or hysterical, or bloody-minded continually, then I’d do it. I think a man has to be slightly advanced, ahead of the woman. I really do – by virtue of the way a man is built, if nothing else. But I wouldn’t call myself sadistic.

 

So not really a modern bloke? But that was 1965

 

He did appear to express some pretty anti-English sentiments late in life apparently.

Another Scot that I used to have a lot of respect for who was a bit of a hero of mine when I was much younger i.e. Jackie Stewart constantly belittles the achievements of certain Lewis Hamilton. It may be professional jealousy of LH who has surpassed his own illustrious career in F1 by a considerable margin, or a mere dislike of LH's persona off track, but his behaviour has been perceived as borderline racist by many on occasions.

Whatever the reason, his pettiness has resulted in him falling considerably in my estimations of him as a sporting icon.
