For the current Covid situation? Given that it allows you to order food and alcohol without question. If certain items on their menu are not classed as ‘substantial meals’ then surely the onus is on them to prevent the ordering of alcohol with meals that aren’t substantial?

But youre forgetting that Martin is a Tory and therefore, like Demonic, exempt from the rules.

Suppose any meal is substantial depending on how much folk can eat :)

I saw a friends Facebook post yesterday.

If you order just chips, or a panini without chips let’s say, the app processes the payment but a member of staff will then come over and tell you it’s cancelled and a refund will be 3 to 5 days.

Tim Martin is a Bellend of the highest order.

No I’m well aware of that, who isn’t? However, in my case, wife and I went into The Joseph Brammah in Tarn and I ordered ‘snack- type food for us both from the App. I was also able to order an alcoholic drink each, which I duly did. Rather surprisingly as I’m aware of the ‘substantial food‘ rule. After being served the food and drink a member of staff came over and asked if we’d been sat at the table earlier as it was on record as food was previously ordered from there. I said no we’d only just come in. He then went onto giving us some speil about how many alcoholic drinks we can order. I told him it was fine we were just having a couple of drinks with our food. He then came back and asked if I was sure we hadn’t previously ordered. I again told him we’d only just come in and obviously it was someone else. He went away and again came back, quoting the ‘substantial food’ rule and that we hadn’t ordered that. I just said well your App allowed me to do this. He said the App doesn’t recognise these differences. He then said we’d have to either order something from the menu or he’d have to take our drinks away. After a lengthy discussion of how can they use an App that wasn’t fit for the current purpose and it was their error and not mine. As you can imagine I was starting to get quite agitated now. My wife intervened and said ok we’ll order from the App. He went away and we just drank up and left.

To be fair, chips was nearly my sole diet as a student.... with beer. It was quite substantial back then.

Haven’t you just written an entire thread where your beef is that you were able to buy a drink without a ‘substantial’ meal. As a hint though, I wasn’t being entirely serious.

Yes, sorry for calling you that, not called for. I wrote this soon after waking this morning so can only put it down still being half-asleep. Well it certainly was because of a hangover ;)

I think the rule is that a ‘substantial’ meal is one costing over £7.99?

Could be wrong, it’s a little while since I looked at the rules.

The T-Bone Steak in Westminster costs less than that after the Tax Payer has chucked a few quid in.

So the App let you order it, the staff served it to you - only to get told a few minutes later that it's not possible to have "a snack" with alcohol?

Well, best get your app sorted out and your staff trained up then Mr Martin

Yep, the App needs to be either updated or taken down.

I don’t think so mate. I went for a meal with the missus at a pretty reputable local place that have four or five gastropub type places (main course about a tenner to 12 quid, that type of place, mid range) and on their menu board was - and I quote - ‘substantial meal of the day’ which was a begging bowl size thing of rice and sweet and sour chicken for three quid. They’ve clearly specifically done it to navigate the policy.
