Catching up with a Leeds fan (sorry) earlier who isn't the usual type tbf. Anyway, we had a good footy chat and he asked how we were doing. I said in a nutshell, new manager, few new players, young team, prone to an error, create loads of chances, energetic, play nice football etc. But as many other threads on here have mentioned about the 'need' for a 'hairy arsed' front man he asked if I could pick one...... ?!? I paused........ then he came in with........ Lee Chapman, let all the rest do the work then head home from a yard or toe poke one in from inside 6 harder and get 20 a season .... oh I wish. So got me thinking, if you could sign one who no longer plays who would it be and why?!? Not necessarily ex BFC players........ I'd love to bring back or have an Emile Heskey type. Very underated. You don't get that many England caps under different managers and have a career like his in the PL without having something.
I’d have David Hirst to go with these lads and big headlines in the Chron/Star saying Reds Tell Owls to put their poultry bid where the sun doesn’t shine .
Started watching in 1990, so can't comment on anyone that was playing before then, so would have to also say Ashley Ward and by a distance as well.
I still don’t swallow this ‘young team’ as a complete negative. I’m just going to say that Marcus Rashford is just 22 years old.
With the midfield we're putting together, I don't think we need this big striker that some think we do. Avoiding the names already mentioned: With the players we have, Sam Winnall would have a field day in this side. Pre injury Istvan Ferenczi would do well as well.
No I don't either. Rather have them as opposed to Wiseman, Perkins, Kennedy etc al. It's the missing cog imho that'll determine our season in many respects. 3 points and 3 goals was brilliant. Although only one from us in open play and 6-7 gimmes missed. Got away with that v QPR but it won't always pan out that way. Not a critisym btw just an observation to create discussion.
Whilst we still have a young team in comparison to the rest of the league, the experience level is unrecognisable compared to this time last year, with the additions of Sollbauer, Helik, James and Frieser, along with keeping Woodrow and Mowatt (for now). Even Brittain had already made 100 first team appearances when he signed.
