Who says music is not prophetic: When I heard the knock on the door I couldn't catch my breath Is it too late to call this off We could slip away Wouldn't that be better Me with nothing to say And you in your autumn sweater I tried my best to hide in a crowded room It's nearly possible I wait for you, oh, most patiently We could slip away Wouldn't that be better Me with nothing to say And you in your autumn sweater
My brother knows Karl Marx He met him eating mushrooms in the public park He said: "What do you think of my manifesto?" "I like your manifesto, put it to the testo" Took me down to meet the anarchist party Met a groovy guy, he was arty farty Said: "I know a little Latin, a kissen an a kai Said: "I dunno what it means", I said: "Neither do I" Eat natural food baked twice daily Fill your nostrils up with gravy Don't drink tea and don't drink coffee Cover your chin in Yorkshire toffee Dancing in the disco, bumper to bumper Wait a minute: "Where's me jumper? Where's me jumper? Where's me jumper?" Dancing in the disco, bumper to bumper Wait a minute: "Where's me jumper? Where's me jumper? Where's me jumper? Where's me jumper? Where's me jumper? Oh no!" Dancing in the disco, go go go Dancing in the disco, oh no, oh no, oh no Dancing in the disco, go go go Dancing in the disco, oh no, oh no It's all right to say things can only get better If you haven't just lost your brand new sweater I know I had it on when I had my tea And I'm sure I had it on in the lavatory Dancing in the disco, go go go Dancing in the disco, oh no, oh no Dancing in the disco, bumper to bumper Wait a minute: "Where's me jumper? Where's me jumper? Where's me jumper? Where's me jumper? Where's me jumper?" It's all right to say things can only get better If you haven't just lost your brand new sweater Pure new wool and perfect stitches Not the type of jumper that makes you itch, oh no Dancing in the disco, go go go Dancing in the disco, oh no, oh no And my mother will be so, so angry And my brother will be so, so angry And my girlfriend will be so, so angry And my dog will be so, so angry Dancing in the disco, bumper to bumper Wait a minute: "Where's me jumper? Where's me jumper? Where's me jumper? Where's me jumper? Where's me jumper? Oh no!"
Nice one. This is a little harsher on the ears, but still prophetic... "Watching the decoys of all description Sparkle of colour creating diversion The liars are out - they have all the assets Mining for oil, they were bleeding for gold Fruit tasting bitter, the lead in the air Butcher the womb and expect her to bear Forests are falling there's smoke in my throat Machine over man and the mass over mind Re-assurance from face on my screen Appointment with destiny for those who will run Out of the virus immunity comes Out of the virus immunity comes"
On a brighter note, I've been playing this one quite a bit lately. Hopefully we'll be able to call it prophetic when we look back... "Although there's been rain and it's coming again Change has to be here obviously Though my friend the sun looks well on the run He's there in the distance if you care to see"
I DJ'd & did the sound for the band at one of my best mates weddings a couple of years ago. This was the highlight of the night.
It’s a banger alright. I’m glad you posted YLT above, I played their album “and then nothing turned itself inside out” to death when it came out but hadn't listed in ages so I just did
They are still great. I'm not a massive indie fan these days, but they just make quality songs. Any other jumper / knitwear songs out there?
Funny thing is the keyboard player is a great guitarist & one of the drummers normally plays bass & the other drummer is the main vocalist. That type of band, which is why I love them.
Rah Rah did a similar thing, swapping vocals, drums and guitar duties around for different songs. I really like their first album, need to get hold of some more. Here are a couple of tracks from it...
